People forget a lot of the times where they came from and who they really were before their new life. In the memoir The Distance Between Us by Reyna Grande she and her family go through many phases in the United States where they always yearn back for Mexico. In the memoir Grande never forgets about her precious streets that she grew up in of Mexico. Grande states that she was visiting “the shacks on the other side of the canal where Meche lived (Grande281). For many immigrants like Grande the United States could not be fully accepted because they always remember their people in their old community. My father always remembers beautiful small town he grew up in. Every time my father goes to visit Mexico, he always visits the streets that he once enjoyed as a kid. Many immigrants like my father never forget the good times that they once had growing up in their first home. My immigrant sister in law who is from Mexico always mentions the beautiful city of Puebla where she grew up in. Now that she has been in the United States for a long time, she yearns the tasty mole her grandma use to make her at her house in the street corner. My mother has never forgotten about her family since she left Mexico. Whenever my mom receives her check at the end of the week she sends money to her parents in Mexico who she has never forgotten. Various immigrants like my mom always miss and remember their parents back in their homeland. My father always thinks first for his grandparents back in Mexico before himself. This way my father always sends them clothes and money in order to help support them at such an old age. Like many immigrants my father never forgets what is most precious to him back in his first hometown. My mom’s boyfriend Carlos who is from Honduras is always worrying about his mom’s well being since the day he immigrated to the United States. He sends plenty of money to support his mother and calls every chance he gets to see how she is doing. This demonstrates how many immigrants like Carlos still remember the people who helped bring them where they are
