He didn’t mean to kill her, but since Lennie does not understand certain things, he also does not know his own strength. In conclusion, Lennie should not be held responsible for killing Curley’s wife. He should not be accountable because Lennie is not all there and had no idea what he was doing. Another reason Lennie should not be blamed is because Curley’s wife forced him to touch him to touch her hair, and if she did not do that and start yelling at him, none of this would have
His lack of knowledge allows him to do things he thought it would be ‘cool’ and to be accepted in the group because his ‘friends’ told him to, a clear representation of peer pressure. By having him being clueless and unaware of what was going on, this enchants his vulnerability to Peer Pressure. His parents whom Derek was very fond of disapproved Chris very much, but Derek chose to ignore the fact and kept going with Chris, dominating his life. Chris would make Derek do things he didn’t want to, such as drinking, smoking and sneaking out at night, only to do things that he
He doesn’t like to be the only one blamed as he shows here: “(with marked change of tone)… I thought that – for some reason best known to yourself - you were making the most of this tiny bit of information I could give you. I’m sorry. This makes a difference.” He shows that he does not mind if he doesn’t have to take full responsibility and says that it changes everything. Arthur does not like to take all the responsibility. Also, he is afraid for his family here and their reputation.
The view switches between him and a few sorted others, but it mostly focuses on his side. This sets him as the protagonist, even if only subconsciously. His intentions aren't to cause any trouble, but the way it seems, Merridew just will not have another person leading the group. The conch holds his symbol of power over the boys, and thus the breaking of it symbolizes the loss of any sort of power. This all seems like a tragic story about the dissolution of a society in to chaos, but the chaos was not completely one-sided.
You gonna get me in trouble jus’ like George says you will” (91). He thought he was just keeping her quiet, not killing her. It’s not like he had the intention to kill her. His mental disability keeps him from thinking like a normal person. Lennie is not responsible for her death because he did not understand what was
This is important because he could’ve stopped his men from going since he felt like something bad was going to happen, but he didn’t. Another reason why I think it was Odysseus's
One of the characters in the novel “There Are No Children Here” did a lot of bad things that his mind didn’t accept just for the purpose to be accepted by his team. “Terence wanted to fit in, to be accepted by his peers “and the meaning of that is all of Terence intention in doing the stuff he did was for fitting in. “Dally giving us his gun, although it could mean jail for him.” (p.154). Dallas would do whatever was in his power to make sure that Johnny would not have to endure or face the same things he had to. He had a rough life rougher than anyone could ever imagine and he could not bear to have this happen to Johnny. Dally saw that things were starting to go wrong for Johnny and he just knew he had to do something to stop this. “I just don't want you to get hurt.
A little social drinking is not a terrible thing, but drinking turns deadly when people treat it as a sport and try to “out drink” others. Or when people drink solely to be drunk and are not happy with themselves sober. Looking at this case from the point of view of a potential fraternity member it saddens me to see that incidents like this actually happen. A big reason why I am attempting to join a fraternity is because of the respect they have shown me and I know they would never put me in a situation that would make me uncomfortable. In the case of Benjamin Wynne I believe he was attempting to join a fraternity for all the wrong reasons and the fact that he chose drinking and wasn’t responsible enough to limit
Although constant evil swirls around Bruno, he is able to hang on to his innocence, which shields him from the knowledge of the situation he is in, but ultimately leads to his and Shmuel’s downfall. Bruno’s innocence becomes quite apparent throughout the course of the novel. He portrays this childish innocence through his lack of understanding on many of the changes that have been happening in his life. Bruno portrays this quite clearly by asking his father : "Did you do something bad in work? I know that everyone says you're an important man and that the Fury has big things in mind for you, but he'd hardly send you to a place like this if you hadn't done something that he wanted to punish you for."
