Field Experience Essay

During the field experience the class as whole grew together. Through the many different types of activities we became closer and not only did we do and learn new things about ourselves, we learned new things about each other. The extended day along with activities really allowed our class to grow and evolve, really transforming our group dynamics through some of Tuckman’s developmental model, which include the stages of Forming, Storming, Norming, and performing. After reflecting on the day as a whole, I really was able to see some of the things we have learned and talked about in class come to life, in real life activities and situations. At the field experience one small thing I learned about myself is that I am not nearly as scared of heights as I previously thought. Going into it I was honestly pretty scared that I was going to be extremely out of my element to the point that I would not be able to do any of the activities put in front of me. But once the opportunity presented itself to climb the high rope course and do the multiple obstacles I learned that I can do things I believe I could not do. The high ropes course really allowed me and the everyone in the group to use our bodily kinesthetic intelligence, which we learned about in Howard Gardner’s article of “The Theory Of Multiple Intelligences.” In order to complete the obstacles we had to trust in our bodies ability to ultimately allow us to achieve it. Granted it was extremely scary at first, but after seeing others do it and doing some myself I kept getting more comfortable throughout the day. During the day I also learned that I am more of passive group member than I previously thought, showing I was more of a introvert like we talked about during the first week of class.
