Famine in Somalia Hunger and nutrition are factors of survival as a basic human need. The simple thoughts of “I’m hungry”,“I want food”,and “I’m craving…” are not just readily to be fulfilled for regions such as Africa.Just a grab of a handful of chips or a run to the store is nowhere near tangible for them.Widely known, whenever global issues regarding hunger are brought up, most first think Africa is most affected.Africa’s hunger is advertised and promoted every day and everywhere,in ways through television and walking into grocery stores for donations. Africa as a region is so extremely malnourished that their hunger is evident,physically.Often seen in children,the bloating of the stomach is because of their lack of protein and carbohydrates in their diet versus the rest of the binging world. Why is Somalia most affected? What are the causes for their hunger specifically?Are there any solutions being discussed? Somalia, also located as what is known in the Horn of Africa, dates back to the Palaeolithic period, going from under the rule of Communism to since 1991, no central government in most of the country’s territory. An estimated 10 million of Somalia’s individuals are affected by the drought and at least 2.5 million are affected by famine/acute malnutrition.Somalia’s famine is caused by not only the corruption of their government, but their climate and location as well as their emerging economy. After the 18-year Somalia Civil War, the country has suffered as a whole. In addition of having a history of poor political leaders, Somalia does not have a central government. Though attempts have been made to have an established democracy, until today Somalia does not have a controlled administration.
