Trade is vital and necessary for the economy of a society. Trade occurs through communication between peoples and can result in cultural diffusion. Some of the most significant trade routes included: the Silk Road, the Trans Saharan trade, the Indian Ocean trade and the Hanseatic League. Fairs and markets played a key role in the exchange of goods.
