As a whole it is all of our responsibility to fight against this epidemic so that we can win the war for our children’s health. Becoming obese is a result of consuming more calories than you burn off with activity. As stated earlier depression can play a part in obesity as well, children that are not popular, may feel left out and eat as a way to cope with those feelings. Many do not realize this is a cause for obesity, but it is and needs
Consumers need to be aware of all the sweet 2 drinks we take in, and realize that we take a lot more in then what we think. As a parent we are told that Gatorade and sports drinks are good for our children, but if you look at the ingredients you will see that they are just as bad. Even the diet sodas are bad for you. People consume most of their calories in sodas and sweet drinks. We need to make these sugary drinks not so easy to buy.
The secret is using a 'gross' method which depicts teenagers drinking bottles of lard with fat flowing down their faces. This method has proved to cause a decrease in obesity rates among teenagers in the state of Hawaii. Additionally, a director from the Department of Health, Loretta Fuddy, believes, "Rethink Your Drink has had a significant impact on behavior change among our teens. This type of public education is essential to improving health and wellness, as it gives teens the information they need to make healthy choices in their everyday lives." Although the majority of teens reported drinking sugary drinks every week, the ‘Rethink Your Drink’ campaign used such a
Americans are unhealthy. What is more mind boggling is that we are unhealthy but more so because sugar and unwanted calories are being advertised especially to children who would never pass up that offer. I agree that vending machines in schools should be filled with nutritious options instead of unhealthy ones. Our youth needs to be educated while they are able to understand the risks and consequences on indulging on a daily basis. they need to be taught how to thrive and most important how to survive by making healthier choices.
Benefits of Weight Training in Today’s Society Today’s society and possibly always people have had an obsession with body image. Ironically the American population is in an epidemic due to obesity rates and poor health related to diet and exercise. One simple solution to this problem along with proper diet and exercise is resistance or weight training. Not only is this an answer to our obesity problem, it also benefits our society in a voluminous number of ways. In an unfeasible attempt I will try to cover the extraordinary number of benefits of weight training within this paper.
The program gives you challenges and opportunities to become a better citizen. The instructors are not like teachers, they put in an effort for you to actually try and build up. You do leadership tasks; you help younger teens, participate in things that other teens don't get to participate in. The class isn't boring, you’re always learning about new things, we do weekly current events, and uniform wear. Wearing uniform teaches us responsibility; we have to make sure that our uniform is in order, and has everything on correctly.
We have to learn from our mistake, do better and make sure it does not happen to us ever again. Making a bad or wrong choice has a solution of going through depression or regret later on in life. Especially, if you are a crazy, reckless and careless teen that is just worried about being popular, partying, and wasting a perfectly good life. Us, teens have been told that we are the future of this country and that our daily actions and choices can help us or destroy us in many ways. I tend to notice a lot about people’s life and I see their struggles with everything they choose to do without thinking it through.
These entertainment devices are taking away from physical activities and are leading to increased energy intake through snacking and eating meals in front of the TV; and, influence children to make unhealthy food choices through exposure to food advertisements. The parents need to limit the inside entertainment time, such as T.V and gaming systems from their homes and swap that time for things such as outside family time. That allows time for exercising such as a walk. These children need to burn calories by being physically active. It’s sad to say that Obesity now affects 17% (12.5 million) of all children and adolescents in the United States.
Children’s bodies are still growing and their brains are still developing, so it is critical that we make sure they are getting the nutrition that they need and develop healthy habits now. For the first time in history we have a generation of kids that are less likely to have a lifespan as long as their parents. They face higher instances of obesity, diabetes and heart disease and even learning disabilities, due to improper nutrition. We are literally filling them with poisonous chemicals and food devoid of real nutritional value. We are filling their bellies, but starving their bodies.
The easy way out to being healthy and eating right for ones body, fast food has plagued the nation especially with diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and even strokes or heart attacks. A question is now posed of whether or not fast foods should be fed to children, in substitute of their regular lunches at school. These kids are what seem like innocent victims because of their naivety towards the real problems with fast food. The problems with this quick fix in school cafeterias are that students would become obese, they would develop bad habits, and that the school would be advertising for these companies. “More than 70 percent of obese adolescents retain their overweight and obese condition even during their adulthood” (What Are Children Munching On?).
