Unit 024 Promote Child and Young Person Development Outcome 3 Be able to support the provision of environments and services that promote the development of children and young people 1. Explain the features of an environment or service that promotes the development of children and young people. The features of an environment will change considerably during a child’s, young person’s education i.e. When a child enters into education at the age of three years old their environment will provide a colourful spacious room in which to develop, there is floor space for carpet time and group learning. There is a role play areas within the classroom and in their secured outdoor play area. There are designated areas for tables and chairs where they will follow guided activities. These tables and chairs are created to accommodate the size of small children entering into school for the first time. Under the guidance of the class teacher and following the foundation phase, the children are allowed to roam freely from one area to another within their classroom space. Although their equipment and surroundings will appear big at first it soon becomes apparent just how small everything is in the lower school ( age 3-7 ) compared to the upper school ( age 7-11 ). In the lower school the work on display will form mostly pictures created by each pupil, whilst in the upper school the pupils work will show how they have developed in their handwriting, maths and language skills. In the upper school the children's furniture is bigger thus accounting for their growth. There are very little or no role play areas as learning through play or the foundation phase as its known, is no longer apparent from year 3 upwards.
