Exercise in Sensory Description Exercise 1 The stuffy damp air intruded right into my lungs when I slightly open the door. It must have been ages that nobody has ever step in here. The odor of decayed wood and dusty fabric has fulfilled the living room. I smell molded leather while I sneaked carefully through the ruptured sofa lying on the floor. A thread of fetid smell starts creeping in my nose as I get closer to the hallway. I am a little anxious but I can’t resist knowing what’s inside the basement. At the end of the hallway, there is a kitchen. An intense smell of rotten meat keeps stabbing toward me. It makes me feel like vomit so I turn and run away. Exercise 2 When I was in Taiwan, I really like to have shaved ice during the boiling humid summertime. When we have shaved ice, the server will first fill a deep dish or a bowl of shaved crumbed clear ice into a small mountain, and then we get to create our own mixture of sides and dressings from the bar. I like to add spoons of all kinds of tapioca jellies: different colored pearls and crystal cubes bounce around lively with crisp crunchy ice every chew. There are also varieties of syrup dipped sweet beans and taros, can create a smoother and delicate texture within the bites. After adding the fillings, we can glaze some fruity syrup or sauce onto the ice, just a touch of sweetness or sour soaking into the layers of ice. It’s always a lot of fun when different combinations of textures and taste randomly showing up in your mouth. You can possibly enjoy a sudden string of strawberry sweetness when bits of tapioca flipping and flapping your tongue, or satisfied with a piece of silky creamy taro melts with icy cold liquid flowing beneath you
