The purpose of this paper is to discuss the social process theories and how these theories are in relation to determining why individuals commit crimes. The social process theory views committing crimes as being a learned behavior. These learned behaviors are due to the interactions with organizations, institutions, and things that happen within society. Due to society’s lack of control to contain these criminal acts, negative labeling occurs. This labeling is what pushes people into committing crimes (Siegel, 2000).
Their key arguments are: when a youth does something, he doesn’t think twice. This is because their brains are still developing. The youths who commit crimes should be sent rehabilitation, so they do not commit crimes again. Many researchers have come to a conclusion that putting youths in prison with other criminals can effected the mentally, some of those effects turns them into criminals. Now I am going to talk about my point of view.
While, if they were able to be released back into the community they could have actually been rehabilitated. This not only happens to juveniles this also can happen to the smaller weaker adults. While, the hardest question that the judge has to ask him/herself is “Is this offender fit to be put back into society or just put into prison/jail”, which can deter a possible offender from being released to probation to be sent to prison or jail. The possibilities of rehabilitating these offenders are very high if they can be placed into the right type of correctional program. In community based corrections there are many different types that can be offered.
Argument Essay: That we should use prison labor for public works; Affirmative team We should use prison labor for public works because it’s an additional punishment, it can also be an industry. Because of this it will help prisoners seek jobs with their skills and start a new life. In a way it’s a way that can re-educate prisoners; Prison labor assists prisoners in acquiring vocational skills and work ethic so that they can have post release employment. In a prison family, such as a criminal record of a family, a member of the family could break the circle so they wouldn’t be prisoners their whole life. Like what Xavier said in his argument, the government would wasting money on the prisoners, I believe that’s true the government is helping giving the prisoners a second chance and to be educated.
The self-improvement can be good for the inmate and good for society. The condition of a parole sentence varies by states and statues. It also depends on the offender’s criminal history and changes in behavior. Some states utilize parole boards in making the decisions to release or keep offenders while others may not. Many conditions of parole are similar to the ones done by probation offenders.
Some jails already have work for the inmates to do, but more jails should have jobs for the inmates. Some inmates have families that they would like to take care of while they are incarcerated, a job will help them in helping their families. The various problems in jail are medical issues, riots, gangs, and financial problems. It is hard for people to collect any compassion for the two million criminals serving time in the over populated prisons and jails. Half of the prisoners in jail and prison are there
In the criminal justice system of many countries, the purpose of imprisonment is to punish the criminal, prevent further crime and to rehabilitate the offender. How rehabilitative do you think the prison system is? The prison system is influential in rehabilitating the offenders. It seems to change the lives of offenders by providing different types of rehabilitative programs. First of all prison system provides the Vocational education training (VET) which helps in gaining the employment in future and therefore likely to work in the civilized society and less likely to reoffend (Weatherburn, 2004).
THE WAYS THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM IS USED IN OUR SOCIETY TODAY. Nikita Adams Everest University Criminal Justice is a system use to deter crime or to keep it from occurring by the use of incarceration or other forms of punishment or rehabilitation. There are many ways to deter crime through the probation system which allows certain conditions to be set by the court or through other institutions as incarceration where a person will be incarcerated until bond has been set by a judge that allows them to be released until a trial date is set. (www.study of laws.com) Criminal Justice is the system of law enforcement, the bar, the judiciary, corrections, and probation that is directly involved in the apprehension, prosecution; defense, sentencing, incarceration and supervision of those suspected of or charged with criminal offenses. Criminal Justice is to protect individuals from crimes by controlling them.
“A given correctional agency will sometimes take actions that do not seem best suited to achieving fairness or public protection. At times, correctional agencies may seem to work at odds with one another or with other aspects of the criminal justice process” (Clear, Cole, Reisig, and Petrosion, 2012, p. 11). In spite of this, our correctional institution have a give-and-take relationship with the environment in which it operates. What this means is the practice within corrections affect the community in which it operates, and the values and expectations of the community affects how corrections operate. “If the prison system provides inadequate drug treatment, offenders return to the community with ther same drug problems that they had when they were locked up” (Clear, Cole, Reisig, and Petrosion, 2012, p.
As well as a negative side that can lead to social disruption. Durkheim (1982 originally 1895) believed that a certain amount of crime was necessary for any society. Durkheim argued that a collective conscience which provides the framework for people to distinguish between acceptable behaviour and unacceptable behaviour was evident in society. However, Durkheim found that there were problems in society when these boundaries become unclear; Durkheim stated that the boundaries change over time. Therefore it is functional for crime to keep the people informed on the boundaries of their society.
