“When counselors face issues that require them to exercise their clinical judgment, particularly where there are no clear right or wrong responses, it is essential to consult with colleagues to the extent possible. In some situations consultation might be impossible, such as when emergencies arise. When time does allow, however, consulting about clients provides a substantial protection to counselors whose clinical decisions are later challenged” (Remley & Herlihy, 2016 pg. 24). As a counselor, I may face hard-ethical decisions. I am aware there will not always be right or wrong answer when being faced with an ethical discussion when working with a client. During these times, I will need to be diligent with my decisions. I would reflect with supervisors, colleagues, and lawyers to ensure I am making the best decision for the protection of my client and to prevent possible harm to the client and others that may be involved. The problem I chose to reflect on was pertaining to a sixteen-year-old female that was date raped by a seventeen-year-old male who is a star football player. When considering all these factors none of them are for certain on the potential harm that may be cause to the client. Considering this case at the session that the client told me about this dilemma I would encourage the child to tell her parents on her own. I would inform the client she could tell her parents with myself as the counselor present and ensure the client it as safe place to disclose such information with parents who may shun her this situation. I would not want to break confidentiality with the child as a client. Continuality is a right to all clients. However, although, this child may not be telling the truth. Was there alcohol involved? Where did this alleged rape happen? There are little details in regards to this alleged date
