Nike Unknown ETH/316 Date Unknown Nike Nike is one of the most powerful companies in the world spreading the signature trademark swoosh symbol In Greek mythology, “Nike was a winged goddess or spirit of victory, both in battle and peaceful competition”. (theoi.com, n.d.) This is not a bad name to choose for a company who has lured some of the most influential sports figures of our time to endorse their products. Nike has faced many ethical problems such as employing people in sweat shops for extremely low wages. Nike needs to be in a state of urgency to retrieve the global support it needs to sustain the success of their apparel empire. Nike’s products are so heavily marketed globally that it is hard to believe children working in sweatshops are producing the famous swoosh worn by so many individuals. Nike has employed some of the most popular sports athletes in history. Michael Jordan has been called the greatest basketball player ever to play the game and he has a line of Jordan apparel that some people are addicted to. Other athletes that have endorsed Nike products are Tiger Woods, Bo Jackson, Andre Agassi, Ronaldo, Lance Armstrong, Michael Vick, Deion…show more content…
Nike was providing jobs to people in areas that was not easy to provide for their families but Nike made some mistakes. “The majority of challenges Nike had to overcome involved ethical issues and debates. Even though Nike was providing jobs to those who may not otherwise have one, it was paying “a mere $1.60 a day to Vietnam factory workers when the living wage is at least $3 a day” (Hill, 2009). Nike could have avoided this challenge by paying each employee worker the living wage of the country he or she lives in to purchase necessary items”. (Phoenix Business, 2014).
