The next who sends Juliet to her death with good intentions is Friar Lawrence. He is to blame for the tragic deaths of Romeo and Juliet because he is the one with the plan that ends up killing both Romeo and Juliet. Friar Lawrence is a holy man so he would not intentionally wish to kill Romeo and Juliet. He wants to see Romeo and Juliet happy so he has to make a plan. The plan sounds good at first, but when the slightest mistake happens the plan ends in devastation.
Romeo misunderstands this and believes Juliet is dead. He then buys a poison for himself and kills himself when Juliet wa playing dead. Juliet wakes up to find Romeo dead and even though Friar Lawrence pleads with her to refrain from killing herself, Juliet stabs herself and dies with Romeo. Friar Lawrence was always in favour of the two lovers and he did his best to bring good to them. Who do you consider is most responsible for the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet? Shakespeare’s play Romeo and Juliet all ends in a terrible tragedy, however there has to be someone to blame for this, but who? I strongly believe that Friar Lawrence is responsible for the tragedy. The main reasons why I think he is to blame is because he married Romeo and Juliet without anyone’s permission; he also helped them to have a secret night together; gave Juliet a dangerous potion; faked her funeral breaking the hearts of her family and he continued abusing the use of confession throughout the play. The most disgraceful thing is that he is a man of god and he committed all of these horrendous sins!
However, Friar Lawrence is more responsible than Tybalt for the deaths of our “star cross’d lovers” because he allowed Romeo and Juliet marry and it caused Romeo to avoid the fight at first with Tybalt, than later tried to stop the fight between Tybalt and Mercutio and caused Mercutio to get killed by Tybalt. Friar Lawrence also made a potion for Juliet to fake her death to let her see Romeo, but he failed to get the note to Romeo and Romeo didn’t know Juliet’s death was fake, so he ended up committing suicide and so did Juliet. Friar Lawrence never told anyone about Juliet’s death being fake. “So smile the heavens upon this holy act that after-hours with sorrow chide us not.” This was when Friar Lawrence agreed to marry Romeo and Juliet. It lead to them dying for each other’s love, when this could have been prevented if they weren’t married.
The knife was destined to be how she killed herself. In the final act of the play, Romeo had been banished to Mantua from killing Tybalt. He runs into his old servant Balthasar, who told him that Juliet was dead. Romeo, not knowing that she had actually taken a sleeping potion, can’t believe she died, and states “Is it e’en so?-then I defy you, stars!” (V. i. 24).
Friar Laurence knows that Romeo and Juliet have feelings for each other. Friar Laurence is even the man that was willing to marry Romeo and Juliet. While Romeo and Friar Laurence were waiting for Juliet on the altar, Friar Laurence tells Romeo,“These violent delights have a violent ends/ And in their triumph die.” (2.5.9-10) Friar Laurence knows that their marriage will bring about consequences, and he still chose to marry them. If Friar Laurence didn’t marry Romeo and Juliet, their deaths wouldn’t have occurred. After Romeo is banished from Verona, Friar Laurence helps Juliet come up with a plan for her not to marry Paris.
Firstly, Friar Laurence married Romeo and Juliet knowing that their families hated each other and that it could end very poorly (Shakespeare 944-45). Friar knew this was a bad idea, but he continued with it and married the two. However, if he did not do this he would never be in trouble and Romeo and Juliet would then have to get married the ordinary way, thus, letting both families know. Next Friar decides to give Juliet a vial which will put her in a death-like state and sends a letter to Romeo about the plan, but it does not get to him (Shakespeare 993-1012). If Friar Laurence did not give Juliet the vial, Romeo would not kill himself because he thinks Juliet is dead.
This was mostly due to poor timing and bad luck when it came to his plans. In his attempt to save Romeo and Juliet’s relationship he ended up killing them both. Nurse did the same by helping Juliet get into the whole relationship in the first place, then once again when she turned Juliet down when she asked for help to get out of marrying Paris. Nurse was just trying to do what was best for Juliet; but this time Nurse was wrong. Prince Escalus, unlike Nurse and Friar Lawrence didn’t affect the tragedy so directly.
He was the one that placed the idea of using poison in Romeo's head and he was the one that helped Juliet plan her fake death.Though he had the best intentions of helping the two, and solving the family feud between the Capulets and the Montagues, he played a huge roll in their deaths. In addition, he is the one that told juliet to take the potion so that she would fall a sleep, and because of that, thought that she was dead so Romeo had killed himself and when Juliet found out, she killed herself. Friar Lawrence had also taken up a big role on Romeo and Juliet's secret marriage, which was the wrong thing to
Hamlet also expresses the possibilities that the ghost could have been the devil. Although hamlet gets upset with himself he believes that the play he arranged would display Claudius’ guilt and then he will know for sure he killed his father. This reveals to the audience that Hamlet is a procrastinator and he is a coward. In Hamlet’s fifth soliloquy he contemplates the idea of suicide, he suggests that maybe the only reason we choose life is because we know so little about death other than it Is final. After contemplation Hamlet decides not to take his own life.
