The problem has a long history. For centuries now, black males have been seen in a negative light in school, college, in the media, and in their families. Urban Prep Academy of Chicago, which is an all male inner-city school in Chicago, who for the past two years has sent 100% of its graduating seniors off to four-year colleges and universities, should serve as a model school for blacks in the inner-city (Unknown). If there are more African American males in jail than there are in college, then this is a huge issue. In America, blacks have fought to have equal rights, and equal access to a better future, so it is time for blacks to start acting like it.
John majors government came into office after the downfall of Margret Thatcher, which ultimately created divisions within the party. Not only did the party suffer from the internal conflict but also faced the problems of the recession after the ‘Lawson boom’. In order to stabilise the economy he joined the ERM getting a good deal but ultimately resulting in ‘black Wednesday’ causing Major to raise interest rates to 15%. This was political suicide and he soon lost the support of the press we had once relied so much on to get re-elected in 1992. Black males perform more poorly on literacy test than do other students. Starting from an early age, it has become known that Black males are confronted with a series of barriers that make it more challenging for them to achieve academic and social success. The story David shared was dealing with six friends that was able to help us understand not only the ways in which Black males are literacies, but also the whys and how’s Black males had to deal with life as a African American. He has succeeded in so many facets of life, not just to win the approval of the white man, but also to strengthen himself. He was a tremendous scholar and had succeeded so much in high school that greatness was nearly expected from him. It was almost as if by conforming to his social situation now, he could one day stand against it and changed the entire social aspect as a whole. He “visualized [himself] as a potential Booker T. But selective colleges have long been accused of perpetuating class divides, rather than blurring them” (Freedman 1). Education is a key institution in today’s society. Education since history has been used as the tool for the eradication of poverty that translates to a better future prospect for the students. For many years education was viewed as the greatest equalizer in achieving society’s expectations of life.

His education allowed him to perceive the world with a peripheral mind that was never brain-washed in school. “My homemade education gave me, with every additional book that I read, a little bit more sensitivity to the deafness, dumbness, and blindness that was afflicting the black race in America.” (217). The significance of this quote encompasses what Malcolm X is trying to accomplish, to address the issues of education on behalf of his people, in order to empower the black community. In a sense, he wants to liberate them from the limitations education imposes for the minority groups.
