The colonies debated England's power to tax them and did not wish to be taxed without representation. Consequently the American Revolution began, and the probability of the colonies winning was not bright, but the patriots were willing to fight to become a free, independent nation. The Patriots used several different strategies to defeat the “Lobster Backs.” During and after the war, people began thinking of extremely radical ideas that were exceptionally revolutionary of the time. There were numerous, significant people that contributed to military intelligence of the American Revolution. With the odds against the colonies, George Washington kept the revolution alive by staying one step ahead of the British.
One theme that will always be relevant to modern audiences is war. Many people have great interest into what goes on at war and is often an emotional topic. Conflict and resolve are threaded throughout the history of the human race and wars and large-scale battles were often fought. This is still seen in modern society. It can have very large impacts on the life of an individual and lead to lifestyle changes.
The weaknesses were greater than the strength, the National government couldn’t force the state to obey its law which means that the states was pretty much running wild. They didn’t have the power to tax, they couldn’t enforce the laws, congress was lacked of leadership, we had no national army or navy, we didn’t have a national courts, and Each state could issue its own paper money also they were putting tariffs on trade between the states. Many citizens were concerned that the government was too weak. “The Articles gave Congress the power to pass laws, but no power to enforce those laws” (Article of Confederation). There were no courts to settle conflicts between the States.
War has then become a natural extension of this role, and whether it is defined as just or unjust is determined by its effect on the position of the US and its allies. Inevitably, all civilizations have to deal with war, whether purposefully waging it or defending against it. World history is filled with bloody conflicts between states, the results of which have changed the way the world interacts. Our country was even formed as a result of a war against colonial oppression. At the time it was endlessly debated as to whether going to war with the British was the right thing to do, but it was eventually decided that it was necessary in order to gain our independence.
Many historical events, especially the conflicts in World War II, have shown when foreign invasions have been justified, and when they have not. Only when the people are being freed, or liberated, from an oppressive regime can changing their society be justified. The idea of liberation is nothing new, but it is still relevant in conflicts today. The morality, rationale and laws behind starting wars have changed greatly in the past century. Today, many governments still hold the historic idea that a war in a foreign land can be justified if they are doing good for the people living in the area they are attacking.
Sometimes it is just the opposite, sometimes it works well. Well developed economies would benefit largely from the immigrants, because there the labor market is highly-stretched upwards. There is no one to fill in the niche for low-paid service workers or those involved in physical and hard work. That is the place of the immigrants, and that is the new form of slavery in the 21st century. The raise in GDP doesn’t come mainly from taxes, because even if they are legal immigrants (which are not the case usually) they have minimal income.
The national government was weak and disconnected, and the federal powers were greatly lacking. After the drafting of the Articles of Confederation, the system controlling domestic affairs was heavily flawed. The federal government was given little power while the states were almost autonomous, creating the root of all problems for the struggling central authority. As a result of the decentralized government, Congress had no authority to impose taxes or regulate domestic and foreign affairs. There was no national court system to settle interstate disputes, forcing settlements to occur in the courts of one of the states involved.
The main reason for the failure of the Frankfurt parliament was indefinitely its lack of military power, which could have been used to combat any opposing forces that didn’t follow with their decisions. However Prussia and King Friedrich Wilhelm IV (King Frederick William or KFWIV) must also be counted into the failure of the Frankfurt Parliament, as must the factors of Austrian presence and Internal Problems within the Frankfurt Parliament. Primarily, military power was non-existent in the Frankfurt Parliament and in its endeavours, as there was simply no money to pay for an army. Many states in Germany had armies, but none were as powerful as that of Prussia or Austria. The parliament would have been able to muster volunteers, but there was no money to equip them with weapons, and the only way that the Parliament would have been able to make money, would be by introducing taxes.
How important was the First World War in bringing about the Russian Revolution of March 1917 There are many reasons as to why the Russian Revolution of March 1917 was caused but the First World War was an important part of the lead up to the Revolution. In this essay I will be identifying the effects the war had on the Revolution. When the Russian people were first aware that there would be a war, their initial reaction was good. They put their faith back into the Tsar and they supported him even though he had let them down in the past. If the Tsar could successfully win the war, he would be able to maintain the support and trust from his people, but unfortunately the Tsar let his people down again.
This was due to the fact that there weren’t any fighter planes flying over countries dropping bombs, no tanks no ground troops, no actual deployment of missile and there was no direct armed conflict between the two continental giants. However there were a stockpile of nuclear weapons, money was being spent like an actually War was being fought, propaganda, and there were two superpower enemies but no actually fighting occurred. The Cold War was a big arms race that was started after World War II between the United States and the Soviet Union (USSR or modern day Russia). This war caused a bipolar system in the world where there were two dominant powers fighting to become the dominant power. A World War would have resulted in the use of nuclear weapons, which had the capability of completely wiping out all humanity.
