My husband’s family usually meets at his grandmother’s house and we eat the food that she has prepared for us. This is her old family tradition which includes turkey, ham, dressing, vegetables, green bean casserole, and desserts; she says that she will always carry it on. My family always picks a dish that each of us would like to bring and we meet at my parents’ house to eat the food that we have brought. The menu varies from year to year but usually we have the basics ham, turkey, vegetables, and deserts. Our family has decided to help out with the food as it makes us feel more involved.

Betty Crockerism Growing up, I always watched my grandma enjoy the act of cooking for our family. She would spend hours on the weekend cooking and baking for all of us. She always seemed to be having fun in the kitchen, so it seemed like more of a hobby than a chore to her. Little did I know, she was performing a religious ritual under a religion called Betty Crockerism. Betty Crockerism is the belief that anybody can learn how to cook and cook well by following Betty Crocker and abiding by the holy book of Betty Crocker, known as the Betty Crocker Cookbook.

I enjoyed the Carnival celebration because it brought joy to the community. Some of my biggest challenges as well as best times happened while I was in school. One of the good thingsabout education in Hati for me was good teachers.

Thanksgiving Traditions In our family, family feast is an important tradition during Thanksgiving. The entire family sits at the table during dinner and offer prayer to the Lord. My Thanksgiving ritual is of gathering together with family giving thanks, feasting on a great meal, having fun, and watching television shows. We pay more attention to our cooking and preparation to the holiday. During Thanksgiving there must be a grace moment of faith in a religion or an expression of being thankful with life and our success. Thanksgiving is a ritual of reflecting on what we are thankful for, a ritual of affirmation of what we Americans believe was the Pilgrim and Native Indians experience. Thanksgiving meal is conceivably the most important meal of the year.
During summer months, the good old fashioned barbeque is a wonderful way to help with meals especially in families with children. If you are in position to make these small gestures of kindness, then know that you are already blessed and a blessing to others. If we all decided to extend ourselves just a little, even in the midst of hard times, either by being aware of those in our immediate surroundings who are in need, or if there is extra time or energy and resources, (seeds are still incredibly cheap), commit ourselves to a backyard or community garden, we would be able to assist and alleviate some of the hardship if only in our tiny corners of the
