There are definitely pros and cons for individual(s) being able to have a concealed weapon but in this case I am for people being able to carry a concealed weapon. Criminals are less likely to target a person if they know that person is armed. Second I don’t feel the government can 100 guarantees the safety of all of its citizens. Third reason why is criminals are going to carry a concealed weapon legal or not. So why shouldn’t law abiding citizens be able to do the same and be able to protect themselves.
Banning all or some weapons is not the solution to decreasing the increased gun related violence in the United States. Having stricter gun laws and measures could keep weapons out of the hands of criminals, people with mental illness, or individuals with bad intentions. Limiting the number of bullets a magazine can hold will not keep these types of individuals from committing a crime. The solution that will not affect the responsible gun owners would be to have stricter gun control laws, thorough background checks with mental health assessment,
On the other hand, some people believe carrying guns is a not a civilian’s duty; therefore, only military, police-officers and other law enforcement entities should possess them. In his journal article “The Media Campaign Against Gun Ownership: Gun Control Will Not Reduce Gun Violence,” author Phyllis Schlafly states: Despite the claims made by its advocates, gun control will not reduce firearms violence. Supporters of gun controls propagate lies, including inaccurate statistics [that 12 children a day die from guns] on the number of children killed each day by guns and the assertion that access to guns at home leads to an increase in violence…The only way to reduce gun violence is to pass laws that give citizens the right to carry firearms. Criminals are less likely to commit violent acts if they believe their victims could be armed (Schlafly, P. 2001). Thus, the restrictions placed on citizens to not carry guns affect them considerably; when citizens lose the right to own guns, they automatically become
His research says that possession of firearms shows no evidence of “more guns less crime”. Research on firearm possession and risk of violent death is reviewed. Also that having guns in the home can also facilitate suicides or homicides and the increased risk of violent deaths. Since guns do not have the ability to load themselves and find a target, every person has to make a conscious decision to commit a crime using a gun. With the new concealed weapons law passed in Illinois, criminals must think about if wonder if their next victim will be carrying a concealed weapon or not.
Guns do not kill people, people kill people. Drunk drivers and texting are one of the most causes of car wrecks but yet we do not outlaw these items. All the shootings and stuff that has happened is not because the gun wanted to do it but the person controlling the gun. Fertilizer killed people in Oklahoma on April 19, 1995 but you can still buy it and rent a van for less than buying a gun. It is not the guns fault for people wanting to kill people.
Therefore, the executive, legislative, and judicial branch will enforce S.397 to protect firearm industries and our legal system from those attempting to hold them accountable for their criminal or unlawful misuse of firearms or ammunition products. Many people that are injured by firearms or use certain types of ammunition will not be able to hold makers or sellers responsible for the user’s accident or act that resulted in an injury or death. Many lawsuits that were brought to court before the PLCAA were majority criminal cases which resulted with dismissals because the courts believed that manufacturers should be held liable for the acts of criminal cases. Some difficulties or loopholes that can possibly prevent the PLCAA from being enforced is if a consumer or victim claims that the firearm product could have prevented an injury or death if it had specific safety regulations such as:
Due to the recent upheaval of violent crimes on campus, many pro-gun activist have suggested that both the students and teachers should be allowed to carry concealed weapons on campus. Those for this may claim that their rights have been violated because many college campuses refuse to allow weapons of any kind on campus. It is not the right to carry a gun which is in debate here, but rather it is whether or not guns should be allowed on a college campus. The Constitution of The United States of America already grants citizens the right to carry guns, and being in the south, I am by far no stranger to seeing a gun from time-to-time, but it is not appropriate for guns to be in a vulnerable area such as a college campus. There are already too many guns available to the public, and allowing them on an educational facility would greatly increase the likelihood of injury or death.
Guns Don’t Kill People The fact of the matter is guns do no kill people, but it is the people holding the guns that lead to another’s death. If a drunk driver were to hit and kill another person, it is not the car that is to blame, rather the person behind the steering wheel. The same could be said about guns. Not only is it a constitutional right to bear arms, but most crimes are committed using illegal weapons, so taking away legally obtained guns would not decrease acts of armed violence. This issue of gun control in the United States has people completely divided, but it must ultimately come down to the preservation of privately owned guns and the uplifting of current gun bans if this nation’s crime rate is to decrease.
Gun Control “Opponents to gun control laws argue ‘guns don’t kill people, people kill people”’(ProQuest Staff). Gun Violence is a major problem in the United States today considering the current gun control regulations are ineffective; however, laws can be made to accommodate for this and still allow the citizens to protect themselves from danger. “The role of guns in violence, and what should be done, are subjects of intense debate in the United States and elsewhere” (Webster). The people who have either seen, heard, or read news stories on gun policies might have come to the conclusion that mass shootings, the mentally ill, and assault weapons are the primary concerns in the debates; gun control laws disarm law-abiding citizens and fail
To undergo a background check, prospective gun buyers are required by federal regulations to present, “photo identification issued by a government entity.” It is illegal and punishable by up to 10 years in prison to sell or transfer any firearm or ammunition to someone while “knowing” or having “reasonable cause to believe” that the person is convicted of a felony offense. Background checks have blocked more than 1.6 million prohibited purchasers from buying guns. Background checks only do so much, because criminals don’t go to stores to buy guns, but go through the black market were they obtain basically what they want. Besides the black market, criminals also obtain weapons through loop holes such as family and friends, private sellers, and gun shows, where they do not need to go through any background
