The most important way to stop this erosion is to ensure that the next generation understands what the American Flag represents. I believe that the American Flag is more than just a three foot by five foot red white and blue piece of material. We need to remind our children as well as ourselves that the American Flag is more than this. It represents not only the freedoms and liberties that we sometimes take for granted, but also all of the true American Heroes that have served underneath it. The flag represents the soldiers that have fought at home and abroad to ensure that we retain the very freedoms that allow us to protest the wars that they are fighting.
our men and woman were deployed into combat recently due to the terrorist attack on 9/11. The American soldiers sacrificed their lives to protect what our flag stands for. We need to appreciate our flag and what it symbolizes; we should always honor our soldiers and fallen heroes who are continuing to fight and who have lost their lives to protect the freedom of The United States. My husband is a Americas soldier,he put his life on the line, to make sure his family and American people are safe from terrorists. He wears his flag proudly on his uniform he salutes and honors the flag every day. Burning the American Flag is illegal and it is a waging war on America and our brave men and woman who are dedicated to making sure our flag is never burned, ripped or disrespected.
Thus leaving American’s to become conspirious about the truths of war and ethics in the Federal Government. In my opinion the arguments made against the government’s way they misled the public were true and interesting. The government having not told Tillman’s family the truth up front I believe was a cowardly thing to do. The way the Bush administration portrayed him out to be a hero, in which I believe he was, he shouldn’t have been made out to be more heroic than any one of his fellow soldiers. Just because Tillman was a NFL football player shouldn’t have given him any more starlight than other soldier who also gave up their lives to fight for this country.
Minersville School District v. Gobitis When people think of the American flag, they often think of the symbol of our country, the symbol of freedom. The flag represents everything our country stands for and the sacrifices made to preserve our way of life. The Pledge of Allegiance has also been a essential part of our school system and a way for school children to honor their country. But not all religions embrace the idea of holding up the American flag and reciting the Pledge. Many school children and adults have tested the idea of Patriotism and what it means to be a American with a different religion.
These courageous men saw sights that they hope a human being would never see in the lifetime. They had no bathrooms and no shelter. They had small rations of food and no change of clothes. Death was in the air and seen throughout the beaches. Soldiers saw their friends shot dead in the matter of seconds, or blown to pieces by heavy enemy artillery.
However, why can’t everyone in our great nation follow in the footsteps of those families who have someone out in Iraq fighting? This issue becoming a significant reason why the soldiers deserve American support. These men and women do not get the appropriate recognition that they should receive, they do not get the appropriate support from their very own government who initiated the war, and they are risking their lives; mentally and physically to protect the citizens of America. So where is that ribbon? Where is that support?
The seminar was very opinionated by all who talked. The songs have different opinions about America and the seminar was informative on what other people around me believe the stereotypical American is like and what they think of what our country does. Some of the songs we herd in class were very patriotic in my opinion. “Proud to be an American” is an example of a patriotic song. When Lee Greenwood sings, “I’m proud to be an American where at least I know I’m free.” , he is saying that being free is what he believes it means to be am American.
Where to Draw the Line The First Amendment of the U.S. constitution boldly states that “Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech.” As members of society, we witness this privilege utilized in both positive and negative ways through our daily lives. But, what happens when this liberty is abused and the emotions of certain groups are damaged in response to this “freedom?” Through his essay, “Protecting Freedom of Expression at Harvard,” scholar and former president of Harvard University, Derek Bok, expresses his firm claim that “Hanging a Confederate flag in public view or displaying a swastika in response is insensitive and unwise because any satisfaction it gives students is far outweighed by the discomfort it causes
As Lance Corporal Brown places his hand against the hard building known to most Marines as the barracks. Most who never have lived in the barracks on Camp Lejeune would see them as a decent place for our military men and women to live in. Brown took a deep breath, wondering what would be in store for today. He knew his Commanding Officer would probably have them running most the roads on Camp Lejeune for the morning P.T session. Lance Corporal Brown enlisted into the United States Marine Corps, knowing he wanted to make his grandfather proud.
English II Essay 4 Jennifer Duncan December 4, 2010 An insight in the American Dream The American Dream is a dream of a nation which people can reach their highest potential. It is a dream of social stability in which every man and each woman have the full distinguish of what they are, despite of the conditions of birth or gender. The essays”Declaration of Sentiments by authors Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and the essay “I Have a Dream” by Martin Luther King, Jr. illustrate two different times in American history. They were both martyrs and spoke of injustices against citizens of America. Both authors show some lines of thought on what the freedom in the American dream means.
