I shouldn’t ought to let no stranger shoot my dog” (p 60). George takes this comment to heart, and this foreshadows George’s decision to kill Lennie himself later in the book. Lastly, the chapter in which Curley’s wife dies begins with Lennie stroking his dead puppy, which died because he petted it too hard. “When I’m doin’ my hair sometimes I jus’ set an’ stroke it ‘cause it’s so soft…Feel right aroun’ there an’ see how soft it is” (p 88). Since the reader knows Lennie likes to pet soft things, but he has a record of killing them when he does, it is obvious her death is imminent.
The reason I think so is because spiritual, mental, and emotional aspects are much more significant than physical aspects. The story Of Mice and Men took place during the Great Depression, where close friendship between people was rare and unusual, and George benefited because he had a companion that traveled with him and always stayed with him. Lennie told George that if he is causing too much trouble for George, he can live in a cave alone, but George did not accept. When George shot Lennie (for Lennie’s benefit) and the friendship ended, George became extremely lonesome and he desired a friend like Lennie. Back to The Mighty, Kevin and Max realized that they had something in common.
Discuss, with quotations and close reference, how Steinbeck uses language, both spoken and descriptive, to create a variety of effects in “Of Mice and Men”. 5. Should one feel sympathy for Curley? In Curley, Steinbeck has painted a picture of a thoroughly unpleasant young man. Argue a case, using three (3 ) points, to show that it is possible for the reader to feel sorry for Curley, while still acknowledging his many faults.
Curley's wife then comes into the barn and flirts with Lennie and he admits to have a like for stroking things, so he began to stroke her hair. As Lennie continues to stroke her hair harder, she starts to get scared and agitated and Lennie eventually breaks her neck. He then proceeds to bury her body in the hay and run away. Chapter Six - In this chapter, George meets up with Lennie at the area where George told him to go if anything ever went wrong, Lennie is panicking a lot as he has just committed a crime and doesn't know what to do. George tries to calm him down by talking to him about their dream ranch and what it would be like, he slowly distracts Lennie's attention until he decides to shoot Lennie in the head with a pistol.
Does George need Lennie more or does Lennie need George more? Have you ever wondered how two people, who are completely different, can have such a good relationship? The perfect example of this can be found in John Steinbeck's classic novel 'Of Mice and Men'. These two characters are George Milton and Lennie Small, two itinerant workers. Lennie Small is a lanky, skinny man.
he often threatened to break her spirit or “kill [her] in the attempt.” In a perhaps less blunt way, Hurston’s mother showed that she too, had a fearful and negative outlook on the world. She knew that Hurston was impudent and prideful, but she didn’t want to hurt Hurston too badly in fear that she “would turn out to be a mealy-mouthed rag doll.” Hurston’s father had no problem pointing out the worst and bringing the future with a negative point of view. He often told Hurston of the events she was to encounter in the years to come. He would threaten her with the thought that “posses with ropes and guns were going to drag [her] out sooner or later” for her sassy tongue. Or that her “mama was going to suck sorrow for not beating [her] temper out” before it was too
If excretes realism in the way it characterises life as a constant strain in which one must contend with numerous obstacles, like the protagonists, George and Lennie. The book identifies how men cling to the false hope of impossible dreams in as a source of comfort and security. However as the story progresses we soon learn that this is not the beat way to live your life. Loneliness is a dominant theme in Of Mice and Men. Most of the characters are lonely and searching for someone who can serve as a companion or just as an audience.
“Euripide’s Medea is primarily about the theme of conflict between men and women” – Dicuss Within the play, Medea is characterised as highly maternal, whereas Jason is seen to be somewhat distant. Medea is likened to a “lioness guarding her cubs” and the thought of losing her “darling children” is enough to make her “cry with pain”. In contrast, Jason is somewhat detached as a parent; referring to “the” or “your” children rather than “his” or “ours”. His interest in the two boys seems ultimately selfish, as he is largely preoccupied with what they will be capable of then they are older: crushing Jason’s enemies (as opposed to their own) and brining their father glory. Overall, this implies that a primary focus of women is their children, whereas men are more devoted to the practical aspects of progeny; the ways in which the offspring can benefit their parents.
The two main characters in the book 'Of mice and men' are George and Lennie. It is an unlikely relationship between these two. Lennie is totally reliant upon George, because of his mental immaturity of a child. However George is reliant upon Lennie for friendship and companionship in the lonely and unfriendly environment in the 1930's, where it is hard for one to find work. George admits this to Slim when discussing him and Lennie "It's a lot nicer to travel around with a guy you know" "I forgot again" This suggests that Lennie has the mental immaturity of a child, as children always forget and only remember things they find important.
Children’s inexperience to life is a great way for authors to create lesson learning, life-like situations for readers by demonstrating bad decision making. For example, Jackie in “First Confession” is a young boy consumed by his emotions and driven by strong views of his grandmother and sister. He threatens his sister with a butter knife and refuses to eat grandma’s cooked meals because of his reluctance to show any approval of either of them. The hypocrisy he sees in both of them leads him in refusal to interact and even shun them from his life. He eventually plots to kill his own grandmother!
