Both Krebs and Wade were in wars that most of the country did not understand. The difference between the soldiers is the way they are treated by family while away and when they return home. In “Soldier’s Home,” Krebs is considered a hero to his sister and mother. An example of this is when Krebs sister asks for him to watch her game. While at war, Krebs mother says “I’ve worried about you so much, Harold” (Hemingway, 1925, p. 121).
Catcher in the Rye: Journal Assignment Throughout the novel, Holden uses his isolation from society as a form of protection. He feels as if he is excluded from society, has no purpose in life and is constantly trying to find meaning for his existence. As the novel progresses, readers see that Holden uses his sense of superiority as a way to cover up his insecurities. Holden feels that because he is better than everyone else, there is no reason to interact with them. However, even though Holden acts emotionless he does have feelings but expresses them differently.
We see a sense of the weak relationship because he doesn’t even take the moment to properly bid farewell to his fellow parents that he has been with for many number of years. This was conveyed through the phrase, “ I looked back again and saw the gold light die behind her.” Not only that, most families will tend to have a discussion or at least exchange a few words through Breakfast while they ate silently. This was conveyed through, “ had stood wordlessly while I had stood wordlessly while I ate it.” The relationship can also be suggested as a weak one because there wasn’t any attempt to stop the protagonist from heading on into his journey. This could possibly because of a massive problem or incident that has caused the protagonist to make such a decision as the atmosphere is set out to be very dull and glum. This is suggested with the phrase, “
God Before Family “ When we are no longer able to change the situation, we must then change ourselves.” -Victor Frankel. No one ever has complete control over the situation, when the situation takes a turn for the worst or a turn for a way in which we do not want, we must either change our perspective, or completely let go. Chinua Achebe’s short story “Marriage is a Private Affair” portrays exactly how devoted individuals can be to religion and religious traditions. A man so strictly set in his ways has arranged for his son to marry a girl from his very own tribe. Meanwhile, his son has fallen in love with an outsider and refuses to be joined in marriage to anyone but.
He is obviously biased against his father and wants his mother’s sole attention. This point of view provides humor because Larry thinks that he actually belongs in his father’s place, as his mother’s sole companion. Sexuality is involved in the story’s humor because the boy sees his mother as a spouse and he thinks that they can have children together. 3. Larry calls it irony that his prayers were answered because he prayed that his father would return from the war, and when his father actually returns from the war, he wishes that he would leave again.
One way in which Linda holds up and encourages her husband is by telling him that things will work out for the better. This is relevant to the American Dream as her hopes for Willy never blossom, just as the American Dream cannot actually be achieved by everyone as it states. Willy’s beliefs of how you become successful in the Business World are entirely wrong. He has the right mindset for the Green World but does not want to accept this; he has to make his own way in the Business World. He believes that qualities such as popularity and loyalty are essential, however Howard throws all of this out the window in bluntly saying: ‘business is
He is thoughtful one moment and conniving the next; he's willing to sacrifice for his family, but he's also willing sacrifice someone else's family for the benefit of his own, and he is unwilling to take responsibility for his own actions. “All my sons” is about living the American Dream. Joe has the house in the suburbs after WWII, has the perfect child, lives in the perfect neighborhood, and shares his life with the perfect neighbours. What Joe perceives as perfection was bought on lies and deceit. His feeling of family loyalty is based on disloyalty to others.
He thinks that the Senior House is a better choice for the both of them as his mother would be happier there. Despite in actuality, Meursault’s mother did enjoy a blissful before her death, the fact that Meursault shows no emotion towards both his mother and her demise is incongruent to the social trend. His lack of sensitivity is severely chastised by the society in which he lives. The other citizens cannot understand his insensitivity, and more importantly, will not bother. They are merely concerned with the inconsistency that Meursault’s actions pose to the social norm.
. Charles did not find this funny at all, because he knew if he did the same thing, his mother probably would punish him. In this story Charles have a brother call GL, a brother who always get the attention of his mother the attention that Charles never had. In this story the hero’s journey is not finished, because Charles refuse to return, he refuse to make everything like it was before he left home, even if his mother try to make him understand, “you’re about thirty years too late, Mama” after this words Charles go to his bedroom, but this time Charles was different, now he was self confident and secure about himself, he was relief of all his hiding feelings, now Charles was a different person. Not tell to the people we love the things that we have inside can in the long
