“It is an honour for a man to cease from strife: but every fool will be meddling.” This means that a man can go down two paths when facing conflict, one path will find a solution while the other, shorter path never ends the argument. A man is wise to pick the first path, though the second path may be the easiest route. A gay man will take the first path. Although it may be longer and more difficult, he wants to be accepted for who he is, gay. A politician will take the second path. It is shorter, simpler, and with more force, but will only delay the problem of sexual discrimination, not defeat it entirely. It has been introduced to Congress often since the early 1990’s. Recently, two bills have been designed to be passed for this issue, one by Representative Barney Frank and another by Senator Jeff Merkley. Both bills are still in the committee showing no means of progressing any further. Another factor keeping the probability of this bill being passed minimal is the Republican Party’s control over the United States House of Representatives and that this bill is not one of the Republican Party’s priorities at the moment. On top of this dilemma, Congress is currently dealing with some other important issues such as budgets and fiscal problems. Also, the Democratic Party was the majority party from 2009 to 2010, and even then, they could not pass the Employment Non-Discrimination Act. This makes it highly unlikely for the act to pass now, even including the fact that Obama administration supports it. America began with white male landowners being the only ones with certain rights such as voting. As America evolved, those who did not have those rights began to gain them. For example, schools that once only excepted males are now coed. Woman and African Americans now can own property and vote. People are being treated more and more fairly every generation. Gay marriage, or even the thought of being gay used to be considered treason, but now is recognized, less frowned upon, and more accepted in our society. The United States government did not need to, in fact should not have tampered with this category, for time itself is the greatest cure and had already begun working its magic, mending the holes and sealing the gaps of our society and more importantly, this
