I. Who is Emilio Aguinaldo? Emilio Aguinaldo y Famy Emilio Famy Aguinaldo nicknamed Miong was born on 24 March 1869 in Cavite Viejo, in Cavite, to Carlos Aguinaldo and Trinidad Famy, a Chinese mestizo couple who had eight children, the seventh of whom was Emilio. The Aguinaldo family was quite well-to-do, as his father, Carlos Aguinaldo was the community's appointed gobernadorcillo (municipal governor) in the Spanish colonial administration. His father, Carlos died when Aguinaldo was just nine years old. Widowed, his mother, Trinidad, sent him to attend public school in Manila. After graduating from the University of Santo Thomas in Manila, Aguinaldo returned home to Kawit, where he developed a growing awareness of Filipino frustration with Spanish colonial rule. Emilio became the "Cabeza de Barangay" of Binakayan, a chief barrio of Cavite del Viejo, when he was only 17 years old. While serving as the head of barter in Manila, he joined the Pilar Lodge chapter of the Freemasonry in 1895; At the age of 26. The Freemasonry was a government- and church-banned resistance group.
