Electronics II Abed Karaman Period II Research Paper Due date: 1/9/12 The circuit board or the printed circuit board was and is still a very important aspect of everyday life. There are many types of circuit boards, for example, there are wire boards which are not commonly used but were created before the PCB or printed circuit board. The printed circuit board was first introduced in WWII, for communications through radios. The PCB was created by Dr. Paul Eisler, an Austrian scientist working in England. It doesn’t say specifically that he made it but he is the only man credited in making this future changing invention. He first made the single sided printed circuit board, and then he later made the double sided PCB. The single sided PCB is used in simpler electronic devices like the simple handheld radio or in today’s inventions, cellphones. As the years went on, inventions got more advanced. This meant better ways in making these inventions work with these printed circuit boards. Paul invented the multilayer printed circuit board. All it consisted of was multiple circuit boards “sandwiched” together to make a multilayer circuit board. These compose the inside of most computers and almost all of the aerospace technology and machines. Till today, companies all over the world make inventions based on circuit boards. Without this invention the radio couldn’t have been invented, hospitals couldn’t help the people in need; we wouldn’t have phones, or computers or laptops. Every single electronic invention needs a PCB or a printed circuit board. Everything I use in my room requires a circuit board. My television, Xbox, cable box, remote, and my phone need a circuit board. This one man changed the future in many ways. I can probably say this was one of the most life changing inventions known to man. What really is a circuit board? With
