Caula Rogers Eng-105 English Composition 1 03/30/2014 Dr. Victoria Smith Impact of ADHD on a Child’s Schooling Children with ADHD generally have trouble in school, only because school causes many trials for children with ADHD. ADHD is not a learning disorder; however it can cause children to have problems with learning. Furthermore, children with ADHD have an excessive rate of learning disorders and will have problems with other school-work like calculation and following a long with his/her teacher during direct instructional time. But with enduring and an efficient plan, the child will be capable of succeeding in the classroom. ADHD negatively can affect a child’s social and emotional behavior and the ability to control them in a positive manner in a school environment.
Heavy media usage is considered to be more than 16 hours of media consumption a day. Not only is it proven that technology has changed the way we think, it has also damaged our ability to focus and concentrate. The proof can be found in the grades of minority children. It is reported that half of heavy media user report fair to poor grades and light media users (less than three hours of media per day) report higher grades. Another question to consider is how well children can function on less than eight hours of sleep.
It seemed as if the only people who were able to keep up with the rapid change were the youth. With technological breakthroughs becoming more common by people who seemed to be younger and younger, the youth of today’s society thrive on the new products as if their lives depended on it. My little sister, for example, is nine years old and has mastered the task of working Apple’s new product, the “iPad”, while my grandfather who is 75 years old feels as if telemarketers are using computers to track when he is at home to call him. This supports my theory that other older generations are afraid of something they do not know or fully comprehend. I personally believe that since my generation is so well informed and well trained with digital technology, we should actually take the time to show the previous generations how certain things work, help them and do away with that primal fear that many of them have.
Rachel Reine English 101 Section 4 February 19, 2012 Internet Use in Teenagers In response to the new generation’s use of internet and lack of reading classic books, Amy Goldwasser defends the teenage reputation in her article “What’s the Matter with Kids Today?” Goldwasser speaks of how the internet has expanded kids’ minds when it comes to school and themselves, also how this generation has more access than older generations due to the internet. Goldwasser claims that teenagers spending time online is overall good for them because they do read and write. The content, however, is not strong enough for educational purposes. A blog post about how to curl hair or how to pass the perfect spiral is not giving them any educational value. Whereas reading the local newspaper or reading a classic novel like “The Great Gatsby” by F Scott Fitzgerald would provide a more intellectual purpose.
Later Jones started the research about violent media after pop psychologists said the violent stories are harmful to children. Jones also states two girls as examples to show the affect from the violent media, and these two girls have big improvement in their life. Jones tried to point out violent media may give negative violent idea to child, but it provide a method to learn more about themselves and build up confidence for themselves. In this essay, Jones talked about violent media can also help children grow up in a good way, because it can help them overcome their problem. Jones gave an example about his son, when his son was first grader and all the friends started to climb tree in the school.
Through the film and much of the novel, the Finch children and Dill were eager to learn and discover new things which may have been a clear representation of children back then. However, overtime more modernized children come to not desire new things to learn but to instead have fun. And with technology becoming part of our daily lives more, children also will have less of a desire to learn. The Finch children
Changes in Peer Relationship at Middle Childhood & Adolescence According to the Center of Disease Control (CDC), "middle childhood (children between 6-11years old) brings many changes in a child’s life.” During this time, children are able to dress themselves, friendships become a major part of their lives, and they develop social, mental, & physical skills faster. According to the book “The Developing Person Through the Life Span,” peers are important in children between the ages of 6-11, also known as the middle childhood. As children get to this time of life, they learn how to become a better friend and can learn social lessons from their peers that adults cannot teach. Changes in peer relationships in middle childhood involve children noticing which "clique" and/or "crowd" is popular and if their peers are or not. Also mentioned in the book, at this time, children want to be liked and want to fit in.
It would be hard to explain why young members of our society have become more addicted to the use of this particular device (cell phone); perhaps we can attribute this to the differences in which they spend their leisure time compared to older members of our society. Older people may prefer to spend several hours watching T.V., while younger people will devote an equal amount of time talking on the cell phone, which might lead us to the answer of why divorce rates are higher on young couples. In recent years, 62 percent of marriages ended in divorce, most of those divorced being under 25. Is it possible that technology has something to do with

Children are meeting sexual predators on the internet and forming relationships with them and unknowingly allowing them into their lives. Parents must talk to their children about the dangers of the internet. Technology is a great learning tool for them and they will be far more advanced than we were as children, but it also opens the door for unwanted predators who will take advantage of children. With a society more focused on wealth and having a good job and long lasting careers some children are often left in the care of daycare providers. You can often look on the internet and find video after video of the abuse and neglect that goes on in daycares.
