Name: Reniella Padilla Title & Number: TDA 2.1 CHILD AND YOUNG PERSON DEVELOPMENT 2.1 DESCRIBE WITH EXAMPLES THE KINDS OF INFLUENCES THAT AFFECT CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE’S DEVELOPMENT. BACKGROUND • Family Dynamics Family is a fundamental social group in society typically consisting of one or two parents and their children. Families are very important to children’s lives when they are growing up. Some children do not grow up with their families they grow up in a foster family or in the care where local authorities take care of them. But some of the children who live with their family can be closer or not closer to them this can affect their confidence and their education.
AC 1.3 2.1 2.2 There are many reasons why development in young people may follow expected patterns. These factors may include: social, economic, environmental and cultural. When working with children within our settings it is important to be aware of all these factors which may impact on the upbringing of the children attending our settings. The social factors may be from having a lack of friendship networks. Children’s friendship with others help them develop their emotional understanding, interaction, empathy and social skills.
Family plays an important role in our emotional, physical and spiritual development since each individual in the family system impacts and is impacted by the others. Family therapy is also imperative for this family it will help the family resolve a specific issue and help address the role that family plays in an individual’s life. Family therapy will help them to understand how their family functions, improve communication skills, make the entire family stronger and identify strengths and weaknesses within the family system and set goals and develop strategies to resolve challenges. (Family Therapy What Is It? 2011) I recommend daycare for the children.
Human development and socialization are affected by cultural and parents expectations, especially during childhood. “In societies that are small, egalitarian, and with little occupational specialization, children are expected to learn “on their own,” whereas in industrialized democratic societies there are explicit expectation about what, with whom, when, and how children should learn” (Levy, 1996, as cited by Shiraev & Levy, 2010, p. 199). According to Shiraev and Levy (2010), fundamental human development takes place mostly without regard to the social construct within which it forms the characteristics of a specific culture define an individual’s socialization, those characteristics become intrinsic
Our behavior is greatly influenced by the environment we are surrounded by throughout childhood. For instance, a child growing up in a bad environment involving cigarettes, drugs, and alcohol may be more likely to think these actions are “good” and start them at a younger age. Whereas a child growing up in a good environment surrounded by hard working parents, dinner with the family every night and chores may most likely have stronger values and succeed in the long run. We must learn on our own right from wrong, good and bad. Clark and Robboy allow the reader to understand these concepts.
The beliefs I have about myself as an inspiring youth worker is to make a difference in the life of every youth I work with so they will have the tools to make the right choices when faced with life altering decisions. I have always been drawn to youth who are deviant or might have an edge to them. I can relate to youth who have had a dysfunctional home life; my childhood was far from perfect. I was lucky to have people in my life who were supportive and encouraging to keep me going on the right track. I know what it is like to make bad choices and I regret my actions I have made but I have learned from my mistakes.
How Others’ Perceive Me Stephanie Hamman Com/200 Foundation of Interpersonal Communication July 29, 2013 Claudia Owen How Others’ Perceive Me * What is perception * “Perception is the process of experiencing your world and then making sense out of what you experience” (Beebe, Beebe & Redmond. 2011. P. 62). From a young age our parents influence us to make the right decisions but when the child is grown it is his or her responsibility to make decisions that will affect his or her own perception. The way a person acts and treats other people is a direct reflection on the way he or she is perceives, it is the art of judging a person’s actions.
