The shortage of women also affected the society in Virginia. On the list of emigrants for Virginia, there were very few names of women; men were the majority in that colony. [Doc. C] The scarcity of women made the men feet discouraged, hopeless and even died early. Without women, they had no motive to keep going or to make a better living; therefore, Virginia was at an economic stake.
The model which is related to the case study is socio-medical model. They live in a damp house which has to be repaired and it is expensive for them to keep the house warm since they both don’t have any jobs. This relates to socio-medical because they are having hard time to live in that place which in depressing area and the environment in not well. Tamsela, Ales and their children seem to have bad health which might be because of their inappropriate diet and maybe the pollution too. It is also related to the bio-medical model because Tamsela has asthma and her husband has bronchitis.
Most of the men that came were gentlemen, as in, men who didn’t work as much. Explains why they lacked so many needy occupations. They also had no women, so the colonists couldn’t cook. There were no farmers to grow crops, so they didn’t have any food. They did have one surgeon, but that didn’t help at all since they only had one.

I was born on April 9 th of 1991 in Oxnard California and have spent most of my life living here. Growing up here, I see how much Oxnard has grown and expanded over the years. It is nestled right between Camarillo and Ventura, which brings together culture and different diversities. Oxnard may not be the most high class city but is more in the middle. The good I see in Oxnard is that we are right by the beach, so that gives us beautiful comfortable weather almost everyday.
However, the degree that industrialization affected people varied in rather contrasting ways, with the destitute becoming poorer and the wealthy becoming even more affected, creating two different spheres within society that were difficult to converge despite the various efforts attempted. While industrialization led to a growth in population of major cities, the social aspects of society resulted in degradation amongst the laborers, which constituted a majority of the population. Dramatic growth meant that living spaces were scarce, with several people living in one room of the various tenements. Those that could not afford to pay rent slept outside on the streets (Document F). The high population density created squalid living conditions that were ideal places for diseases that resulted in illnesses and death.
