“Driving on the Beach” I myself am going to support beach driving in everyway possible. People come to Daytona Beach and surrounding areas to be able to drive on the beach and enjoy it. Yes there has been many injuries and unfortunately some deaths because of motor vehicles on the beach, but is it really the person driving the cars fault? Again I am just telling my opinion and that’s all it is. Beach driving creates so much revenue for the county of Volusia and that is money the county uses to improve our cities. Secondly being able to drive on our beaches in some cases makes people want to come visit Volusia County and the cities in it. There are not many places in the United States where driving on the beach is legal. Last but not least driving on the beach is not at all any different than driving on a road besides the speed limits. The speed limit on the beach is 10 mph and almost everyone obeys the signs and does what they say. Banning beach driving all together will upset and make many people very angry. This is a quote from a citizen of Florida. “While the death of the boy is tragic, it could have been avoided if the parents had been watching their child closer and/or taught the boy to properly cross traffic lanes. Why should slowly moving vehicles that have been allowed on the public beaches for years and years be punished because of this accident? – J. L.”(Maxwell, Scott, Driving on the beach: Many readers respond … passionately, Orlando Sentinel, July 25th, 2010) I agree with every word in that quote, if you don’t want to be interrupted with motor vehicles on the beach and don’t want to worry about your children go to a beach where driving is not permitted. That seems to be the easiest way to fix the problem and cut down on all the accidents that are happening. Volusia County has 47 miles of beach, but only 16.9 miles are open for driving, so if you
