Drunk driving is the act of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Because a person’s motor skills are impaired while drunk, driving under the influence is a major threat to public safety and is a criminal offense in most countries. (3 100) A number of suggestions have been made to combat drunk driving, including reducing the number of underage drinkers, imposing restrictions on licenses to keep drinkers off the roads and increasing the use of sobriety checkpoints. The current legal limit for drunk driving is 0.08 BAC which some people feel does not go far enough. Many advocates support tougher penalties for DUI and are in favor for a zero tolerance policy for drinking and driving.
Drinking or using drugs impairs your senses and results in decreased muscle coordination and slower reaction times. Driving under the influence shouldn’t even be considered because you’re not only putting your life at risk but you are risking the lives of others. Today, one in three people will be involved in an alcohol-related crash in their lifetime. Another factor to consider when refraining from driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs is the consequences made by the law. One thing is for sure that getting convicted of driving under the influence will definitely cost a pretty penny even for your first offense.
In recent commercials that I have seen, “No text is worth losing your life!” A lot can happen in that few seconds that you take your eyes off the road just to check a message. Texting while driving is like drunk driving if not probably worse than that. When you are drunk driving your focus on driving is tampered with and in which you’re not giving full attention on the road. When texting while driving you even have less of a
One cause of car accidents is poorly trained drivers. Drivers who don’t follow the rules of the road can be putting themselves and others at risk. For example, drivers who exceed the speed limit will have a more difficult time stopping or turning if something, such as an animal, crosses their path. In addition, there are road signs that drivers need to recognize, understand, and obey. Other drivers cannot tell how people who do not obey road signs will drive, and this unpredictability can lead to accidents.
"Rich kid gets probation for drunk-driving deaths. His defense? 'Affluenza.'." Christian Science Monitor 12 Dec. 2013. Opposing Viewpoints in Context.
Recreational drug use has increased over the years as more drugs are created and distributed. These drugs can be habit forming and can cause severe damage if abused, and may result in loss of life or bodily functions if used in large quantities over time. The side effects of these substances range from gastrointestinal problems to psychological and muscular damage as well as damage to the vital organs (Femail 1). Although some states allow some recreational drug use, the masses do not believe in the use of recreational drugs and society frowns upon users. Drugs used in a way that is not medicinal can be deadly and have shown to be too large a temptation globally, and have been the source of many historic events.
Did you know that 27 people in America die each day due to drunk driving fatalities and another 15 due to fatalities linked to distracted driving? According to Johnston and Wiggins, 2012 Every year there are thousands of fatal car crashes due to distracted drivers. Distracted driving is not only caused from texting & drinking, but from other distractions as well. These distractions include eating, music, children or other passengers in the car, & even putting on makeup or fixing their hair. There are many laws out there that ban texting and drinking while driving to keep people from harm’s way but there are so few people who actually obey the laws.
Why can’t kids do the same thing? As “Fact Sheet” states there are an abundant amount of consequences to underage drinking. Youth who choose to drink before the age of 21 are more likely to experience school problems such as higher absence and poor or failing grades. Also the issues of social problems (such as fighting and lack of participation in youth activities), legal problems (arrests for driving or physically hurting some while drunk), physical problems (hangovers or illnesses), and unwanted/unplanned/ unprotected sexual activity are consequences. Along with disruption of normal and sexual development, physical and sexual assault, higher risk for suicide and homicide, alcohol-related car crashes and other unintentional injuries (burns, falls and drowning), memory problems, abuse of other drugs , changes in brain development that may have life-long effects, and death from alcohol poisoning.

(Cowan, 2014) It recovered only in 2014 and brand value was US$34.9 billion which increased to US$35 billion this year. Toyota’s mechanical errors resulted to fatal accidents while Volkswagen’s deceptive activity may result to death but not immediately, so some people might mistakenly think that VW can recover from severe brand damage. Unfortunately, Toyota’s case was due to human error while that of VW was deliberate deception. VW’s brand identity rests on honesty, fuel economy reliability, efficiency of production, and environmental friendliness, but this image has been wiped off by the scandal. (Helm, et.
