------------------------------------------------- Cameron Art Museum Darian Daughtry March 16, 2014 March 16, 2014 HUM 112 On March 15, 2013 my wife Tanya and I attended the Cameron Art Museum. The Cameron Art Museum is located on 3201 South 17 Street, Wilmington, NC 28412. When I first walked into the art museum I was in awe of all the art. I had always seen the art that they had outside and wanted to go in, but I could never find anyone who would go with me. After taking this class, I was excited to go and look at the art.
I chose to do my museum report on three selected pieces from Sacramento’s Crocker art museum. There were two specific reasons that I chose this museum, first was that I wanted to see what beautiful art our city was holding in side these historical walls. The second was that I remember going to this particular museum when I was younger and wanted to see if it felt the same after taking this class and actually being able to look at art in a new way. My experience was so great It was like walking into the past, who knew of all the history paintings could show. The first piece of art I analyzed was Swabian Hamlet after a Rain by Christian Friedrich Mali.
In order for this style to be clarified artists used short brush strokes, dotting and smearing techniques. This was achieved in the paintings I’ve chosen, making them each historically significant. The post-impressionism transitions these styles by adding more emotion to the naturalism. It’s a movement in broad terms that covers many artists and styles. The post-impressionist paintings I’ve selected were closer to the impressionist style and created by founding artists of this new movement.
In most paintings including Jesus, he is more often than not the main subject of the piece and because Caravaggio wanted to included the man as well, however him not be the main thing viewers look at first. He accomplishes this by diminishing his frame within the darkness. Just like in theater drama, the main focus that the audience looks to Is the one that's casted in light. The painting is given structure though the lighting and contrasts. Considering the actual light source in the painting, had the light been completely natural, all the light from the sun would beam through the window lighting nearly that entire room fairly well, certainly not pitch black in the corners.
While he does occasionally make drawings and small watercolours out of doors, his best work is usually completed in the studio. Although the photographs serve as useful reminders, memory is the liberating force which allows him to reach a more conceptual level in his paintings.' ‘A skin of burden is depicted in The histrionic wayfarer, clothed in the tools to sustain the intrigue of a abstract survey. Provisions, art materials, books, papers, bedding, compass and maps, all for the journey through the landscape of the artist’s mind, accompanied by Smudge, the critic and guide of the whole
Aaron Pierce Intro to Sociology Professor Bess Cleveland MW 10:35-11:50 October 10, 2011 Saint James Art Fair I had an opportunity to go to the St. James Art Fair a few weekends ago. I was there for a few hours, and had the chance to observe different types and groups of people. I found the fair to be a good place to observe the social interactions between people while they were out enjoying themselves. The first thing I walked past was the St. James “UN-fair”. Due to the judging bureaucracy in place at St. James, artists that were not selected for the juried art group organized their own “fair”.
Art Appreciation Fall 2013 October 3, 2013 DMA Reflection Paper Art is certainly not limited to just paintings and sculptures. It consists of a variety of different works such as furniture, pottery, utensils, masks, crystal pieces, quilts, etc. As I walked into the Dallas Museum of Art, I was already feeling anxious. . I knew that not only was I about to experience art in general, but that I was about to see art from all over the world, from hundreds of different societies and time periods.
I had a personal connection because it reminded me of the graffiti that people did in NY subway stations. It didn’t look like graffiti to me but it reminded me of how someone can take a blank object and create something so different but artistic and beautiful. The lighting helped to bring out the colors of the outfits
When he felt he had the right image he would then project the slide onto a canvas and pencil in both lines and details. The reason why Goings was so amazingly talented is because he could paint the photograph with such profound detail that the audience would be able to see detail that they would typically not be able to see in reality. "My paintings are about light, about the way things look in their environment and especially about how things look painted. Form, color and space are at the whim of reality, their discovery and organization is the assignment of the realist painter." The painting called Ralphs Diner (1982) is a great example of the vivid detail he used with light color and texture.
Joshua Holmgren Art 101 12/03/2012 Art Museum Evaluation When I first learned that I would need to write an evaluation paper for class, I was less than excited. However, after spending the time in the class learning about the different styles of art, their influences and origins, I was able to enjoy my visit to the St. Louis Art Museum much more richly than I ever had in the past. I have always enjoyed visiting the Art Museum. Unfortunately, my lack of knowledge of the subject left me there simply looking at the paintings, sculptures, fabrics and exhibits without being able to see it with a critical eye, or to even truly appreciate what the artist was trying to capture in their piece. In this paper I will be sharing my thoughts
