Dominant and Non Dominant Hand Throwing Skill Acquisition comparison between part- part whole and mass practice methods D. Bradbury 21146215 & D. Andersson 20962808 Introduction Throwing a ball is widely considered one of the most important complicated movement skills which exists within sport. This skill is fundamental in the sports of cricket and baseball, the throwing action is also used in sports such as handball, javelin throw and water polo. Primarily the dominant arm will be used to throw the ball in these sports; in this study the rate of skill acquisition, specifically tennis ball throwing with the non-dominant arm will be examined with the comparison of a part- part whole practice and mass practice training methods. Accuracy and distance will be analysed for non-dominant ball throwing before and after a set training method, as well as a qualitative checklist. For simplicity the ball throwing as a skill will be broken into three phases. The first phase involves the three step approach and the cocking back of the arm. Forward trunk rotation will begin, followed by the arm accelerating forwards (elbow first). The last phase includes the release of the ball and follow through. We hypothesise that the part-part whole method of practice will result in a greater improvement to accuracy and distance of a tennis ball throw, rather than mass practice. Literature Review Method Participants Subjects were5 male Sport Science students from the University of Western Australia; all aged 20,right handed and physically active. Participation is voluntary and no other selection criterion is needed. Materials All throws will be done with a tennis ball. In order to measure accuracy and distance a strait 50 meter line will be measured and marked out with cones which also require a 30 meter measuring tape. To asses technique a qualitative checklist will be
