Many of the immigrants, not knowing the way America worked, didn’t stray too far from the East Coast and moved into areas filled with people of similar languages, traditions, and beliefs. When they did interact with American citizens the immigrants were typically assaulted verbally and had to deal with many instances of discrimination. However, ward and city bosses realized their importance and began recruiting them fresh off of the boats trying to gain they’re political votes. This tactic began to affect the political scene of the major American cities as whoever gained the most immigrant votes began to gain control. The substantial increase in population due to immigration that occurs during this time goes on to affect the nation in positive and negative ways.
Civil Rights in the Constitution Civil rights has been a deep issue in America. As the words “all men are created equal” were being written there were surely slaves that understood the irony. There are many decisions regarding the issue. Some filled people with hope while others destroyed hope. There have been a large amount of decisions made on this one issue.

Philip Roth’s Goodbye Columbus details the relationship between Brenda Patimkin and Neil Klugman and their difference in social classes. Brenda has recently entered a much higher class than he is, since her family has made a lot of money and no longer lives in Newark, New Jersey, where Neil lives with his aunt and uncle. It follows the progression of Brenda and her family, and through Neil as the narrator it offers his views and thoughts of what they are becoming. This novella is a parallel to the actual change that many families of the working class under went during the post war period with an upward trend into the middle class.
During “The Good War”, many diverse groups were affected during this time. Groups such as Mexican Americans and immigrants were trying to make a way in the U.S., but had obstacles thrown at them, such as having to face racism and having their freedom constantly challenged. Immigrants, such as Japanese Americans and Koreans, also played a big role in how contraction was shown during “The Good War” due to laws and regulations set on them. The women played a significant role in the expansion of freedoms during the war. In “The Life and Times of Rosie the Riveter”, their expansions of freedoms are shown throughout and include the ways in which they contributed in a positive way for the U.S.
The Progressive Era The decades between 1890 and 1920 was a period of vital reform activity that historians have called, The Progressive Era. In this era millions of Americans organized in voluntary associations to come up with solutions to the many problems. Industrialization, with all its increase in productivity and the number of consumer goods, created unemployment and labor unrest, wasteful use of natural resources and abuses of corporate power. Growing cities added to the problems of African Americans versus The Social Sciences American segregation was a bitter part of American history. Even worse, though, are the securing reasons for the need of segregation and the defense of the institution.
King led movements that reached many and was heard around the world. His actions were meant to eliminate hate and segregation, pass voting rights for African Americans, and unite a Nation with equality for everyone. Dr. King’s accomplishments are taught to people of all races worldwide. His fights against the Vietnam War lead to the “Poor Peoples Campaign” that was a multiracial coalition who were working for economic change. Conclusion William “Bill” Gates and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. were both young scholars who took risks and faced challenges to improve the way of life for everyone.

Attempting to have a fresh start can be overwhelming alone, but being discriminated against because your different can also add to that burden as many immigrants experienced. Immigration can be considered a Godsend. It’s a big reason that a lot of industries flourished and became successful. Companies were built on the backs of hard working immigrants who were paid low wages and worked in dangerous environments.
Immigrants are the reason America is so powerful today. They helped built America from the bottom. Immigrants work hard to stay in America. They will take jobs that most Americans wouldn’t even dare to take. As an immigrant myself, I am glad that my family and I moved to America.
African Americans throughout history faced a great deal of hardships when it came to living a life of equality amongst whites. No matter what the cause, blacks never gave up, and kept striving for a better society. The movement of Civil Rights impacted African Americans a great deal.
