Besides basic conditioning, the Brave New World limits the freedom to do what you want. In the Brave New World, the thought is everything should be profitable, “we condition the masses to hate the country. ‘Concluded the director’ but simultaneously we condition them to love all country sports” (Huxley-141) Since going to the beach or countryside isn't profitable it is not aloud. What is allowed is going to sporting events because people need to spend money getting there and spend money while they are there. By limiting what people can think creates a more stable society.
They were all trying to find their balance through the response of mental toughness. However, as athletes their ability to focus, rebound from failure, cope with pressure, and persist in the face of adversity positioned each of them on different individual levels during their journey. Dottie Hinson displayed the characteristics of the “fear of success” athlete. She wanted to quit the team and sport numerous times because of external factors. She became extremely uncomfortable with the tensions between her sister, the thought of her husband in combat at war, and the expectations of the team.
This would create a vicious cycle of the poor against the rich and the perfect against those unable to reach perfection. This would never allow anyone to fight for their dreams or to try to seek a better future for them or for their families. In Conclusion, the genetic technology that we see in the movie “Gattaca” would be very harmful for society and have bad effects on how people live. It would stop those who aren’t born as planned from fighting to achieve something out of what is expected. It would be very prejudicial and people would stop caring for who you care and just look at what your hereditary traits say.
There is controversy over steroid use in professional sports about steroid uses and ridiculous punishments for steroid users in professional sports and in today’s modern sport scene these athletes are held up to the highest standards of physicality because sports are about testing the physical limit of a human being steroid users have a advantage over non steroid users because they are able to push their physical limits further so how will we ever make the playing field even when there are always going to be steroid users that can defeat drug detection systems? Are athlete’s role models or entertainers? The only way to completely level the playing field of modern sports is to completely remove penalties for steroid use, and to make anabolic steroid injections mandatory for
Ethics in sports is just as important as ethics in any other situation. To use steroids or any other performance enhancing drugs is just unethical and not fair to the game. Many records have been broken, but as fans how can we be sure that these records have been broken fairly? Frank Deford suggest “Maybe we’re more programmed to accept cheating in sports In this country since we grew up bitterly tolerating such utter corruption and hypocrisy in college athletes we love” (Source E) This may in fact be the sad reality. So in conclusion if Major League sports want to protect themselves for the future they must act now and enforce stricter drug testing policies.
In the novel, Amir admits that they “deceived [themselves] into thinking that a toy made of tissue paper, glue, and bamboo could somehow close the chasm between [them]” (87). Amir means that one little thing, especially a kite, couldn’t have brought the two of them closer forever. In order for their relationship to be truly fixed, Amir would have to do several things over the span of his life to impress Baba and gain his acceptance. This passage is significant because it shows that even Amir knew, deep down, that winning the tournament wouldn’t fix everything. By Amir knowing this, it comes to the realization that letting Hassan get raped was really for nothing.
Schools cannot beat the entertainment industry at its own game. What they have to offer students is the chance for intellectual freedom, the power to think for themselves…(Ravitch 163). In school, students are always taught to have an open-mind, how can they have an open-mind when they are being censored? Schools only offer boring, bland topics and cause students to lose interest. Students are so highly influenced by the media that if they aren’t hearing about violence, death, sex or lies, then they have the “don’t care” mentality.
The author thinks that the way BEJING OLYMPICS uses to test female athletes like taking blood to test hormone, genes and chromosomes violates the innocent life. And the author thinks the athletes should be judged to be male or female not because of the genes in their bodies, but because of who they really are. I agree with the author. I don’t think the athletes should be “gendered” like that. Because if we keep doing this, there will be too many problems.
Turning your back on reality will only get you so far. Ignoring the truth will only push you further from the ultimate goal of peace, which is what we all wish to acquire. Things are not always how mommy and daddy made them appear to your young sponge-like mind. The truth isn’t politically correct, and the sooner we realize that as a nation, the sooner we won’t feel as though we’re walking on egg shells on our own soil. The idea of racial profiling puts many people on edge, although deep down we all do it from time to time.
Jake Hager Mrs. Sedgewick February 20, 2012 Silver 2 Persuasive Essay If people in America gave up when they thought they wouldn’t succeed, then we might still have slaves, no rights, and a corrupt country. Most people would agree that if you aren’t going to win then you just shouldn’t try. In my personal opinion this way of living couldn’t be more wrong. When Atticus decides that it is necessary to help Tom, it is a prime example of how some people will continue to try even after they are well aware they cannot win. "Atticus, you must be wrong...." "How's that?"
