Their focus is largely similar where it is ‘the man’ in Duffy’s poem and ‘The Beekeeper’ in Lochhead’s who have ultimate control over the animals. However, they express their views in a very different manner, where both work equally well to explore the theme. It is important to examine the title of each poem in order to help appreciate how the poet will portray the theme.

The use of formal diction suggests that the speaker of this poem is a knowledgeable and wise person who knows about both the lives of the two characters talked about in the poem. The poem suggests that the speaker is excited about the two lovers meeting and thinks they are destined to be together. Throughout the poem there is a very joyful tone, which is created by the positive outlook of the speaker and also the imagery used by the poet. Due to this poem being free verse, the use of imagery is less than most other poems, however the poet still creates a scene in your mind through imagery, but also with the use of figurative language.

However, Gatsby fails to reach his goal because all social classes are not equal. Those with "new money" are disliked by those with "old money" (like Daisy), and the idea that he was poor disgusts her. This shows the failure of the American Dream. Whilst Gatsby struggles to hide his past, Tom Buchanan has control of the past. When Gatsby attempts to regain the past by persuading Daisy to tell Tom she doesn't love him, Tom destroys Gatsby's dream.
