In the poem “Singh Song!”, the poet uses repetition to show the persona of Singh as being very personal and intimate when he spends the little time that he has with his “newly bride”. The repetition of the word “baby” tells the reader that Singh is happy being married to his wife and that he gives her a high status in his life. The repetition of “my bride” is triple refrained which perhaps suggests that Singh has a surprising nature about his wife. This creates an interesting character as it tells us that he is willing to stop working and go against his father’s orders just to spend time with his wife. Despite the criticism he receives from his customers, Singh seems to hold his wife as a major and main priority in his life and could suggest that his emotional and mental wellbeing depends on his wife.
At the same time in “The Gift of the Magi”, Jim loves his wife so much that he will do anything to please her. In fact, he would sell his watch to buy her a set of combs for her magnificent hair. On the hand, Della sold her hair to buy a chain to her husband to accompany his gold watch. Both stories turn out to be ironic because first of all, Monsieur Loisel’s sacrifice was not worth it
If, after his betrothed dies, he immediately starts wooing another girl, his reputation as a fine and upstanding gentleman will be ruined, and he will be hard-pressed to find a new wife of appropriate status. Juliet’s family, the Capulets, are influential, upper-class citizens, and so would be highly offended if Paris does not pay his respects to their deceased daughter. He would also lose the respect of Prince Escales, ruler of their city Verona, who refers to Paris as one of his “…brace of kinsmen (5. iii. Ln 295).” Paris may also entertain the pretense of love for Juliet in order to advance himself both economically and politically in society. If he cuts off his ties with Juliet’s family, they would not be eager to support his future exploits.
He is so obsessed hat he is willing to break up a family just to have his love. In Gatsby’s mind, he might believe that he is truly in love. However, in reality, its not love but is his obsession. He gathered all his wealth, power, and possessions just to impress Daisy. He intentionally bought a house in West Egg just so he can be close to Daisy and watch her every night.
Introduction to Literature Final Paper ENG 125 April 21, 2012 I am writing about the two short stories that read titled, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty written by James Thurber and The Story of an Hour written by Kate Chopin. I picked these two stories because to me they were both about marriages which included the trials and tribulation that come with this union. In a marriage there is want for independence and excitement along with experience that marriage can inadvertently inhibit. I found that both these stories happen to illustrate some of the wants and or needs that arise out of marriage. However both these stories do show at times how desire and or necessity can be satisfied or experienced within the confines of one’s mind and that both stories illustrate a sense of confinement that
When two people first realize that they like each other all they want to do is be in each other’s company. That applies to all people now and in medieval time. One of the conventions in chivalric times is “The lover is smitten through the eyes and the beloved’s image is imprinted in his heart/brain.” This is saying that once he sees her, her image is stuck in his heart and brain. All he can think about is her. The same goes for the 21st generation in a sense.
Upon arrival he spots Juliet from across the room and asks himself, “Did my heart love till now?” When they first met it was as if the stars aligned and everything was perfect until they realized what household each other were from. That didn’t stop them from loving each other though. Romeo and Juliet had a special connection one that we can only hope to experience in our lifetime. Romeo knew the rules before going to the Capulets house for the party, but felt that the reward was worth the risk. The afternoon after Romeo gets marries to Juliet, Tybalt and Mercutio get into a fight in town.
This moment is critical in life of all males as well. For it is his responsibility to make this moment special and memorable for his princess. All the young girls’ dreams and fantasies are suddenly on the shoulders of their boyfriends. Many men don’t realize how special this moment is to their lovely lady and that is why some usually mess it up. But the definition of a perfect proposal ranges from girl to girl.
Against Love We all want to know how it feels to be in love, to be special to someone, and to be loved in return. We want to get to know how it feels to be blindly in love, and do things we never imagined doing for someone. We start living a fairy tale without knowing what comes our way. We decide to give our all and take a ride on the roller-coaster of lust and love, giving our souls to one another, and sharing our hearts, because we think we will live happily ever after. So we decide to merge our lives in the legal contract of marriage.
In “The Author To Her Book” by Anne Bradstreet, the speaker who takes on the role of an author, displays her insecurities for a piece of literature she has written. Through the extended series of comparisons between the speaker’s poems and her children and the vivid personification, the poet expresses the strong and intimate bond she develops for her work and her ambivalent feelings towards it. Also, Bradstreet’s self-deprecating poem explores the idea of perfection in literature. Firstly, the title reveals the relationship between the author and her book. The tone of the title is set apart from the rest of the poem.
