Athletics Sports athletics is a company that produces different types of sports equipment, clothes and shoes. Currently, they have five manufacture plants in cites within the United States. Cities like, New York, Atlanta, Denver, Texas, and Californian. They serve about 3,000 retail stores including Foot Action, Footlocker, Champs, Dick’s and Finish Line. Their distribution system is a single-tier network where the product gets shipped from their plants to their warehouse located all over the United States. Customers and retail outlets receive their items directly from the regional warehouse in their market area which takes about three weeks once warehouse receive the customer orders. The company was established in 1977 as a family project and grew into an enterprise. Since then, the company has expended across the United States. The company is own by Mr. Leshawn Ortiz, who inherit it from his father Anthony Ortiz who recently retire last year. With the recently increase in competition and pressure from its customers to enhance their service level and reduce cost. To improve their service level and reduce there costs, Mr. Ortiz would like to consider a different distribution plan in which all of there warehouses are consolidate with a single main warehouse that handle all their distribution and customer orders. In this essay I would describe how I would design a new logistic network consisting of only a single warehouse. The first thing I would do in this design would get everyone involve in the process, from higher management to the lowest employee on the payroll, because the decision that we make not only effect the present day, but the future as well. I will put together cross-functional teams that would include, someone from the sale department, marketing, manufacture, and operation.
