Demonstrate the ability to reflect on practice. Produce an entry for your reflective diary. It should state what you did, how you did it, how well you thought the activity was and what you would improve for next time. Scene: Break time, table football is always the most popular activity with the boys. There was a queue building up. At the front of the queue, there was a younger boy and behind him was an older boy. They were arguing about who should be first in the queue. I happened to be passing by. The teacher who was on break duty was not present at that time. The arguing escalated so I intervened. The older one claimed that the younger one pushed in the queue ahead of him. As I saw the tears on the younger boy’s face, I felt bad. I thought he is the youngest so I let him play first. A few moments later when I wasn’t looking, the younger boy’s back was punched by the older boy. I think/feel: • I did not have time to patiently listen to their story as I was rushing to my next lesson. • I did not look for witnesses or think carefully of the consequence of my judgement and thoughtlessly judged that the younger boy was innocent because of his age and his tears. • I felt very sorry for both of the children although the older one made an inappropriate act of revenge. • If I though about the incident more carefully and seriously, the younger boy would not have been harmed physically. Pros: • I immediately stopped the argument and avoided violence occurring initially. • If I did not intervene and the teacher who was on duty still did not turn up, more pupils around that table would be involved and the small argument might turn into a more serious incident. Cons: • The older boy might have hurt the younger one more seriously and my judgement may have certainly given the pupils a bad model or misled them. • I have learned that thoughtless judgment can
