Keyanna Miles Professor M.dos Santos English 102-008 October 27, 2012 Deforestation and Afforestation In this paper I will explain the concepts of deforestation and afforestation. I will provide and exploratory comparison and contrast point of view as to how both topics relates to our sustainability on earth. Moreover, deforestation and afforestation are words that I have no knowledge of. An exploratory research of both words will give me gain knowledge. Hopefully the reader of this paper will gain knowledge as well. First of all, what is deforestation? According to an article titled “deforestation” from the dictionary of physical geography. “deforestation” is “the cutting down and removal of all or most of the trees in a forested area”. Deforestation can disappear little by little or rapidly. This is done natural or human acts. It is also a combination of all four elements. Further, deforestation can be a harming matter to our well-being. How so many may ask? The answer to this question is that diseased trees can lead to the elimination of forest, another way according to the article “deforestation” can cause harm by native animals destroying trees by the representation of leaves, and bark being uprooted. Now that I have a border understanding of what deforestation is I can see the effect of forest fires that are often reported on the news in states such as California. Those fires are destroying many tress and forests. Secondly, deforestation affects our sustainability. And the main cause is humans. One example of how humans are causing deforestation is; companies are causing destroying trees to occupy land for development. In addition, the article “deforestation” reports that this practice happens more often than none because; different companies are being built on specific arrears where the trees are.
