I chose this topic for this paper for just that reason. I found it fascinating to learn of the many profound benefits of something as simple as make believe play and how those benefits affect a child's development and social and academic skills. Also how make believe play has an influence on our entire lives even as adults. I found a great article in the Beautiful Minds section of Psychology Today written by Scott Barry Kaufman PhD titled The Need For Pretend Play In Child Development from the March 6, 2012 issue that I used for the basis of this assignment. The children in my class love the rodeo and the theme I picked is perfect for all of them. The kindergarten class (ages five and six) will need to have learning centers to help them learn the basics of their A, B, C’s and to learn how to play nicely with other children. Cognitive The writing center will help with learning their vocabulary, how to create, and how to draw and place words and pictures. Two or three students will work together to make a poster or a sign for a birthday, parent or some other event. They will need to go through the magazines, old Christmas, birthday, or valentine cards for a picture to go with the event and then work at what the poster or sign is to say.

It is a process of development and describes the inventiveness of ordinary people rather than extraordinary contributors. Children are being creative when they use materials in new ways or merge new materials; they are creative when they make discoveries that are new to them. When children are being creative they go further than the information given to create something new and original for them. For young children, the process of creativity – which includes curiosity, exploration, play and creativity – is as important as any product they may create. Gopnik, Meltzoff and Kuhl (2001) describe how children are born with a strong desire to explore the world around them and from this innate curiosity creativity develops.
Activity-Learning about shape and colour by making Christmas trees On the 2nd of december, I Ied an activity whereby 6 children decorated white and green christmas trees, using paint, sponge shapes and sparkly foil shapes in relation to the theme of christmas, whilst we learned and asessed each childs knowledge of shape and understanding of colour. Before I begun I made sure all the things I needed for the activity were set out and in place. I made sure there were plenty of both white and green large triangles cut out , these were simple large triangles, 20cm by 12cm, as these were our trees and I wanted to make sure I had enough of each colour in case each child chose the same colour and if a child really enjoyed the activity
At 9 in the morning, it was our duty to prepare children for breakfast, this consisted of helping them to clear away their toys, attach bibs to them and sit them around a table. After breakfast had ended, I then had to wipe their faces and get toys out for them to play with. While the children were playing, I had to make sure that all breakfast items were took down stairs and put away. For a while i would play with the children until 10.30 when the music man came. When the music man came, I had to make sure that all toys were cleared away and that the children were sat in a circle and ready.
