Dear Emerson, As I was walking in the woods looking for logs and sticks to build my camp fire, I was thinking about what you said about being optimistic. So when I saw a path in the woods made by hikers I decided to take my own way and explore new things. This reminded me about when you said in your writings, “Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.” I have finally found out what this means. This means that you can’t do what everybody else in world is doing. You have to do your on thing and make your own choices. If you don’t you won’t be able to live your life to the fullest and probably regret doing it. If you picture it as if there were two paths and one path says alike and the other says different, what path would you go down. For example, say you wanted to play a sport. All the deer were looking around all worried except one. As I was sitting there almost about to take my shot, I realized this reminded me of your quote about having individualism. I believe it goes, “the great man is he who in the midst of the crowd keeps with perfect sweetness the independence of solitude.” This means that the one deer doesn’t really care what going on he just living by the moment, and not letting one thing get in his way. I try to live like this every day. You must think about the point of life is to complete your goal so why let other thing get in your way. Having individualism will help this. It helps because you’re not comparing yourself to others. You feel that if you have respect for yourself and you like whatever you do you’ll be fine. If you don’t have individualism you will always want to have what she or he has or what they do. Coming from not having individualism, this time alone has really helped me find what I really am and what I want to be. Once you find your inner self you’ll figure out what I’m
