While the more sophisticated of the US advisers realised that the domino theory was too simplistic in an increasingly non-linear world, split not just by ideology but also historically through ethnic and nationalist conflict, this didn't mean that the USSR and China would exploit any weakness shown by the USA. Cold War Considerations: Western Europe and the USSR De Gaulle's France was challenging US leadership in both Vietnam and Europe. Anti-American riots tore through Panama which was merely the most obvious show of increasing hostility to the USA in the western hemisphere. There were fears that one of the two Communist superpowers might be tempted to use this, forcing the USA to get involved in other local conflicts against their will. Vietnam and the survival of the South were considered a central part of the maintenance of a stable world order, and LBJ in particular said that if Chinese aggression could be contained in South East Asia then it would “give the pole on
The war began due to North Vietnam being a communist country, while the US wanted to prevent a communist country taking over the south part of Vietnam. The media played an important role in the war, as the media brought the war into the American’s homes, showing the Americans all the realities of warfare. Many things were showed to the Americans. The coverage that the media showed to the Americans horrified them in many ways: wounded civilians, children who had lost their parents, many villages destroyed, search and destroy missions etc. The war was pointless in the American’s eyes and they thought that America had no right to impose its views on Vietnam.
The Anti-Vietnam war moment in the untied states prove that there were people who cared about peace not war, with protesting, sit ins, and the communication to boycott drafting of soldiers so they wouldn’t go to war. The struggle of the Vietnamese workers, student, and peasants against the U.S. were the worse times. Long lasting moments happen especially the impact it had the growth of anti-imperlism, anti-racism, communism and the PLP. Ho Chi Minh, struggled to drive the French out of Vietnam but when they did leave the U.S. took over or tried to like if they needed to protect something. The untied states where being self-fish and not understanding at all.
Just this alone was a just cause for the United States to get involved in the Vietnam War. Many feel that this wasn’t a good enough reason for the United States to get involved and was immoral unjust war, or that communism is not that bad. According to Aquinas four things for the just war rules which are: legit ruler, just cause, right intention, and self-defense legit. All four of these in my opinion were met in the Vietnam War. US has a legit ruler, president of the United States.
The war can be separated into different periods based upon the United States involvement. From 1957 to 1965, the war was mainly a struggle between the South Vietnamese army and Communist-trained South Vietnamese rebels known as the Viet Cong. Between 1945 and 1954, the Vietnamese waged an anti-colonial war against France and received 2.6 billion dollars in financial support from the United States. The battle started between the Viet Cong and the South Vietnamese government. The U.S provided military advisors and support and the first U.S troops entered Vietnam in March 1965.
Today, it seems that media is censored so much that the American people have almost been made to be soft, which plays a completely different role in the ethics of a photojournalist. I know that this doesn’t really go off exactly what the chapter says, but, (in my opinion) I think that ethics is effected by the censorship, in the way that: Because we have been withheld from so much of what has been going on in the war that we’re in, we are finding it ethically wrong to run some of the more traumatic photos out of fear that the American people can’t handle the
Americans remembered with hostility the fervor of World War I propaganda efforts, which were later regarded as violating basic rights as well as conveying misinformation. At first, the government was reluctant to engage in propaganda campaigns, but pressure from the media, the business sector and advertisers who wanted direction persuaded the government to take an active role. Regardless, the government insisted that its actions were not propaganda, but a means of providing information. These efforts were slowly and haphazardly formed into a more unified propaganda effort, although never to the level of World War I. President Franklin D. Roosevelt created the Office of War Information (OWI) in 1942.
While Murchison remains neutral thus far, he soon begins to take an unexpected course in bias. Rather than express his opinion towards Cruz, he undertakes an outward attack on Obama and his supporters. He states that Obama’s constituency is made up of imbeciles that constantly blame Bush and Wall Street, in addition to “welcoming the impositions of government”. Murchison gets this point across using paralipsis, in which he points out an ideal American public that is the complete opposite of Obama’s supporters, then discards the idea due to its supposed unrealistic nature. Returning to the original topic from the abrupt sidetracking regarding Obama, Murchison further characterizes Cruz as a seemingly pathos exploiter, constantly appealing to people’s needs and frustrations at the given moment.
Cummings makes a flippant comment when the speaker says “and so forth” which is to express in reality that the speaker somewhat does not really care about those songs and only uses them to create ethos and pathos in the heart of Americans. He then uses folksy diction “your name by gorry by jingo by gee by gosh by gum…” to demonstrate the attempt of politicians to make themselves seem like the common man to their audience. The deceitful strategy they plan is, instead of being big shot politician that people are likely to not trust they try to become more approachable. With this their audience will feel a false sense of protection and a limited sense of hope. The speaker becomes a chameleon, camouflaging his skin
I personally believe that America is in a state of moral decline. Rather than rewarding those who choose to live their lives with a sense of justice and morals, the media glamorizes depreciative choices such as smoking, alcohol and general unjust behavior. This subsequently leads those who chose more conservative lifestyles to feel ostracized. More often that not, when a life of refrain from drugs, sex and partying is portrayed in media, it is in a context of the mundane even going so far as to proclaim that people who choose this lifestyle have no lives. The media definitely has a direct correlation to what is socially acceptable in society.
