I want to participate in the cultural enrichment so that I may broaden my perspective on life, language, education, and the world. America's culture can only provide me with one particular mindset. This opportunity to go abroad will open up my way of thinking. It will force me to move out of my comfort zone and adapt to a different way of life. With the rapid development of society, we have entered an era of information explosion. In order to acquire more knowledge of the world I want to take the opportunity to participate in this trip to India. I want to gain several things from this experience such as a sense of cultural sensitivity, take the opportunity to learn a critical language, indulge in a new culture, and develop a deeper level of independence. This trip will help me to develop a new sense of cultural sensitivity, this new insight will benefit me when I start my career as a nurse. As a nurse I will have to interact with people from all of the world and make them feel comfortable with their lives in my hands. I cannot make them feel safe if I know nothing about their culture. This experience will acculturate to the Indian customs that many nurses aren’t sensitive to. A lack of cultural sensitivity or cultural competency can lead making incorrect assumptions that can have a negative impact on patient care. Being culturally aware is important because the provider-patient relationship is built on trust. Understanding other cultures is both necessary and a good thing because as a nurse, it prevents misunderstandings and it results in patients willing to access follow-up care. I also am eager to participate in this trip because I love interacting with people and learning things from people with different cultural backgrounds. In high school I went to a very diverse school. There I was always eager to learn about different cultures, traditions, and taste food
