Cultural Considerations I chose to discuss the Chinese Culture. People usually use the word “profound” to describe Chinese culture. At the same time, China is integrating with international culture step by step. In terms of the film industry, people in China pay more attention to it than before. As for music, hi-pop is also popular in China. Modern mainland Chinese culture is just like another modern culture around the world. They get to school or work every day, watching TV, internet, playing video games, shopping at mall, eat in restaurant, etc. Just like any modern people. But the different is they are also influenced by their ancient culture and religion. Communication is broken down into 6 different stages. The first principle states that the greater the cultural or linguistic difference between people, the greater the likelihood that there will be communication breakdown. The second principle states that when communication breakdowns occur during these cross cultural encounters, the breakdowns are most often attributed to cultural differences. The third principle states that communicating across cultures can often lead people to be more conscious about their own communication. The fourth principle states that cultures vary with respect to the number and kind of “do’s and taboos” that are required of its members. The fifth urges the communicator to keep in mind that learning about the norms and variations in communication styles of a particular cultural group can help increase the understanding of that particular group. The sixth, and final, principle states that if the communicator sees others as friendly, cooperative, and trustworthy, then the barriers will be more easily overcome.
