Jonathan Watt Informative Outline Topic: CrossFit General Purpose: To Inform Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about what CrossFit is and how it got started. Thesis: The definition of CrossFit is the definition of fitness. I. Introduction A. Attention Getter: How many of you have heard of CrossFit? You probably have friends that do it, that won’t stop talking about it. Am I right? You can’t get them to shut up about it. They use weird words and acronyms like WOD to describe their workout, or they say they PR’ed their snatch. What the heck is a snatch? Well today I’m sorry but I’m not going to be able to get your friend who does CrossFit to shut up about it, but what am going to do is inform you on what CrossFit is. B. Reason to Listen: CrossFit was born in 2000 from the mind of a young gymnast named Greg Glassman. He discovered that by using a combination of weightlifting, conditioning, and gymnastics he could become a fitter individual. After years of training in his garage, he established the first CrossFit gym in Santa Cruz, California. Here he began to train police, military and civilians alike all using CrossFit. From the first gym in Santa Cruz, CrossFit has exploded into over 5,000 CrossFit gyms across the globe. CrossFit is taking over the fitness world and it’s important to really understand what it is. C. Thesis Statement: The definition of CrossFit is the definition of fitness. D. Credibility Statement: I am a CrossFit coach at a local gym in town called CrossFit Blackbox and I have been doing CrossFit for about two years now.
