Organizational Structure MGT/230 October 30, 2012 It is important to be mindful of your company's organizational structure because it provides you with information regarding who has power and over whom, how and why a company divides the workload by particular people and by groups. Understanding your organizational structure can also provide important cross-functional relationships to organize work efforts for the best results. It can show where breakdowns can happen in the hierarchy and assist in growing results for better accountability. In this paper, the discussion will be on the organizational structure of Wal-Mart and compare their organizational structure to the organizational structures of two other companies, such as Target
The ability to tap into the global labor market will make the company more competitive by being able to offer competitive prices on products due to lower overhead cost associated with the offset in the labor cost. Attracting employees to join the company is the better option unless there is a management position that requires exceptional talent to fill the position. Relocation of prospective employees can be costly to the company and there is no guarantee that they will be long term employees of the company. With the company's plans for expansion I would recommend overstaffing. This will allow the company to stock pile talent for future
Ethnocentrism is the way an individual look at the world from his/her own beliefs in their culture. They feel that their culture, race, or ethnic group is more significant and that their culture is more superior than any other culture of other groups. In feeling this way the individuals will judge other groups, such as their behavior, the language in which they use, religion. How it could be detrimental to society is that it could lead to false speculation about the differences in cultures. It leads to society making premature judgments about other cultures, not knowing all the facts about another culture.
Acquire or Develop Talent: engaging in an acquired talent strategy shifts the responsibility of employees to human resources department to all managers throughout the organization. The process of attracting and retaining profitable employees is well promoted in the organization so this really increases more competitive relation between firms. But if you refer to the book if the company wants to achieve a full acquisition strategy then Tanglewood is going to have to acquire new talent. This is obviously the best strategy for Tanglewood due to its evident looking at the case. They are some inconsistency in the management styles between the first set of stores and the more recently acquired stores.
It also has numerous of problem that one needs to understand. Analyzing and interpretation of the interviews are subjective and can be biased (Javalgi, Granot, & Brashear, 2011). Thus it is crucial that the facilitator is experienced and understands the culture’s verbal as well as nonverbal communication. Assumption about the interviews can lead to errors in the research. However, understanding the culture and values of foreign consumers can help boost the sales of the product and service because the sales teams can market and target their consumers.
Have to do that internally. The leadership needs to start initiatives within the company that can be incorporated not just at the Company Q headquarters but also at each of the stores as well. Begin with having the leadership of Company Q being serious about the attitude change by having them travel to each of the stores and talking to the stores employees about social responsibility. Having the leaders learn more about the communities through the employees. By doing this then the Company Q leadership can institute changes corporately as well as locally because they would then have an understanding the unique situations that each store has to contend with in each of the different communities.
When ethnocentrism is present, it has the affect of having people sort out members of society by group lines, usually by using an easily identifiable characteristic (skin tone) into "us" and "them". But Noel cautions that ethnocentrism by itself is not enough to cause ethnic stratification. There exist historical examples of groups with ethnocentric beliefs that lived side by side in peace. A second condition cited by Noel that is needed for ethnic stratification is competition. Competition is where there is a struggle for scare resources which could include anything from land, labor, jobs, and housing to educational opportunities.
Selfperception affects an individual’s self-efficacy skills, therefore affecting how an individual will communicate their experiences. While self-perception is an important trait to take into consideration when dealing with self-reporting, it does however, as mentioned, affect the validity of the results due to individuals underreporting and over reporting their actions. Comparisons of Limitations All three articles discussed the limitation of self-reporting, more so in Article 1. While self-reporting is indeed a valuable asset, self-reporting at times is affected due to individuals underreporting their behavior, as well as over reporting it (Hauge et al., 2009). Underreporting occurs due to individuals being dishonest regarding their behavior, therefore causing an error in the research done.
24 March 2011 Heat Pacino and Deniro did not just simply follow their roles. Their lives were encompassing of their roles. They would find it difficult to function outside their roles, because it would simply be outside their norm. It would deviate from what they would consider normal on their perspective on the roles they both play in society, internally and externally. The satisfaction from the outcomes of their roles is similar to an addiction that someone may suffer from.
