My favorite verse from that section was Exodus 21:22-25. I had never heard of the premature fine or retaliation and it is very interesting because it does paint a perfect picture that even in biblical times it was not okay to abort. My favorite part from the philosophical section was when they talked about quality of life as a reason for abortion. I liked the example the article gave of May, Jesus’s mother. She was poor and had a baby that was not her husbands, yet she decided to keep it and it was the savior of the world.
One point that Chua makes is that Eastern parenting is the correct method of parenting because they do not take the psyche or self esteem of the child into consideration during critique. Suicide Note by Janice Mirikitani is the farewell of a college student who committed suicide due to feeling inadequate. Eastern parenting techniques are psychologically damaging to their children and the parents are taking the risk of pushing them over the edge with the extreme pressure and expectations. Chua says in Why Chinese Mothers Are Superior that “Western parents are concerned about their children’s psyches. Chinese parents aren’t.
The Pro-life advocates who are against late-term abortion argued that life begins at conception. At six weeks the fetus heart begins to beat and all the major organs have developed. In that case, any action deliberately taking to abort the fetus is ethically wrong and is considered as murder. An unwanted child is a pitiful thing, the thought of terminating something that if allowed to run its natural course, would result in the birth of a human being that will bring joy to most families. The Pro-abortionist focused only on a women’s right to choose and all the social problems inherent in an unwanted child, forgetting that the unborn child is a precious thing that has the right to life and deserves the full protection under the moral and ethics law.
The controversial issue over smacking children has divided many parents among today’s society. Julia Thornton argues in her opinion piece, ‘A lack of smack is behind the attacks,’ and justifies in an assertive tone that smacking is acceptable in order to teach children discipline. In an informal style the article is targeted at all mothers and fathers. Appealing to the same audience, Susie O’Brien’s article ‘Smacking kids is not the solution as it does not help,’ contends against Thornton’s argument on the issue. Using an informal structure and generally rational tone the writer is opposed to smacking children stating that ‘it does not help’.
Greenberg describes Sally’s admitting staff’s tone as “brusque, commanding, but not unkind and their physical contact with Sally as minimal.” Her room is described as “a tiny shoebox of a room with a gated window (Greenberg, 2008, p. 33).” He viewed Sally’s medication regimen as, “a powerful neuroleptic cocktail, chemotherapy of the brain (p. 30).” Sally’s family did not think Sally belonged in such a setting. Her brother, Aaron states, “This can’t be good for Sally, identifying with these people (p. 107).” These people however were in fact just like Sally and surely their own families must have thought the same thing about their association with Sally. It is quite interesting to note how families develop an elitist attitude to suggest that ‘their own’ do not belong in such a place and yet by their own admissions they are not equipped to help them. Through association with other patients in the dayroom one could see that Sally’s family soon warmed up to the very same individuals that they once scorned and looked forward to seeing regular faces at their visits with Sally . They all were there because they had something in common and that created a bond however superficial it might have appeared to
Journal Entry #1 I believe that the best character that symbolizes a mockingbird is Scout. I think that she best symbolizes a mockingbird because she is an innocent child yet all the adults want to make her more mature since they feel like she does not act like a woman. Scout only wants to play in the dirt and act like a kid but people in the town, especially Aunt Alexandra who moves into the their house to give Scout a feminine influence, do not believe girls should act that way even if they are a child. Scout does no harm to anyone yet the adults are killing her innocence and like Harper Lee wrote, “It is a sin to kill a mockingbird.” The mockingbird symbolizes the innocence that Scout has and the fact that adults are trying to make her

When Atticus fails to understand that Boo was the one who killed Bob, Scout explains Atticus a lesson which is usually visa versa, that you must never kill a Mockingbird and by exposing and giving him the negative publicity towards Boo it would be like killing him in a way. This is the major turning point in Scouts maturity because she finally sees Boo not as evil but as a gentle creature just stuck in a bad situation. Although Scout matured drastically she still managed to be daddy’s little girls when she falls asleep on Atticus’ lap when he reads to her. This is only normal because even though Scout learned so much she is still so young and has a lot more to learn in
I say that you need to teach kids a lesson, not restrict them from that opportunity to learn to do better when they are older. When the Oklahoma government plays the fair labor law, kids are highly restricted and don’t have much of a say in anything. The outlandish laws restricting much of the freedoms of being an American minor are completely and utterly wrong and should be abolished. So next time you see a minor working at a job, imagine you are congratulating him on achieving the unattainable, and remember fair labor, isn’t that
2. Outline of attitudes In the article “Do ‘Helicopter Moms’ Do More Harm Than Good?”, there is two women with an attitude to over-parenting, Helen Johnson and Annie Stevens. Helen Johnson says that she doesn’t understand the parents think that they are doing what’s best for their kids and that the problem is that they are doing exactly what’s wrong for them. She thinks that the over carrying parents are sending a message to
