The FBI reports for 2008 shows that the numbers of violent crimes dropped 11.6% in the city of Detroit. From 2000 to 2004 Detroit’s rate has dropped 23% drastically. In 2007, the city had the sixth highest rate of violent crime among the twenty-five largest U.S. cities. FBI reports In 2010, city of Detroit neighborhoods were not listed as among those in major cities with the 25 highest crime rates in the U.S. as reported by neighborhoods. The crime rate for robberies in Albany in 2010 was 105.1 per 100,000 people. In Abilene the crime rate for robberies in 2010 was 72.7 per 100,000 people. People always have a misconception that higher crime rates will be reduced, if gun regulations are carried out. Conversely, the proof in America’s big city—Washington, D.C indicates differently. “Washington's ban went into effect in early 1977, but since it started there has been only one year when its murder rate fell below what it was in 1976. Murder rates were falling before the ban and rose afterward. In the five years before the ban, the murder rate fell from 37 to 27 murders per 100,000 people.
A startling 293 murders were reported in 2010 in Los Angeles and 32 murders for Long Beach and yet it is even more shocking to know there are far more forcible rapes that occur in both of these areas. I would think that population size, diversity and other environmental factors have something to do with the differences in these numbers. The murder rate seems to have decreased while forcible rape increased in both cities, with an additional 630 incidents in Los Angeles and an additional 102 incidents in Long Beach. On the other hand, for the past several years, crime rates have dropped continually. The Los Angeles Police Department reported in 2008 that
They both have a high rate of robberies, but Philadelphia has a larger robbery rate than Baltimore. Baltimore and Philadelphia had recent drops in the citizens that are willing to report crimes. Philadelphia is located in the state of Pennsylvania, and the population is estimated 1,447,395. Philadelphia has 10,170 robberies in 2010 . Over the past year the rate of robberies has increased by more than 1,000.

Even teenage criminality declined during that period of time, decreasing about 1/3 over the last 20 years. Trends in violent crimes reported by the FBI consists of rape, murder, assault and robberies. The last data recorded in 2005, violent crimes increased from the year before. Alarmingly, the numbers of non-negligent manslaughters and murders rose to nearly 5% and aggravated assaults were up nearly 2%. Forcible rape was the only offense among violent crimes that went down in volume in 2005 (Siegal, 2007).
New York has been known for its crime rate, with a population of 17,999,657 and 99.8% of police departments reporting, there were 761 murders in 2009. The biggest difference between the crime rates in the two cities in the size of population. Even though New York has more murders, the numbers have steadily been reduced thanks to zero tolerance policy in New York. Between 1990 and 1997, the number of murders in New York has dropped from 2,262 to 767 which is 66% drop in the murder rate. In 1997 there were actually the fewest murder numbers in New York since 1967.
In the same time frame 28,818 ‘other theft offences’ were recorded in the local authority of Portsmouth, a decrease of 4.5% on the previous year (Home Office, 2011). Shoplifting in particular has increased sharply since the start of the recession (Crimestoppers, 2010) and the value of goods being stolen has risen by 20% (Crimestoppers, 2009). One set of theories that attempts to explain criminality are the subcultural theories. One of the first subcultural theories was Albert Cohen’s (1955) theory of delinquency, which he developed through researching gangs in Chicago (Muncie, 2005, p. 427). Cohen’s theory outlined a number of major features of subcultures of delinquency.
In fact many statistics have stated that there was a decreased amount of violent crimes committed by juveniles from 1987 to 2008. Unfortunately, while juvenile arrests were declined to almost 10% less in 2008 the arrests of juveniles for drug offenses was at 180,100 and was an 11% difference from the previous years. The report shows that the rate of drug offenses that were committed by juveniles had a substantial increase over the last few years. There report also represented a focus on female juvenile arrests, which stated that 30% of the juveniles arrested were females. The amount of violent
