Introduction: In this task i will be explaining the similarities and differences between the two organisations, Tesco and Cancer Research in the terms of their ownership type and their purpose. Tesco Tesco is a British multinational grocery and general merchandise retailer and the second largest retailer in the world. They have a revenue of £70.894 Billion (2013/14). Their main purpose Tesco serves is supplying wide varieties of goods which it sells both in store and online. They also offer financial services as they have their own credit card, personal loans and various types of insurance. Cancer Research UK Cancer research and awareness charity in the UK formed on 4th February 2001. Their aim is to reduce the number of deaths from all types of cancer. It is the worlds largest independent cancer research charity, they raise money to conduct research into the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of the disease. Type of ownerships Tesco- is a PLC (Public limited company) which means anyone can buy shares, if they can find someone who wants to buy or sell. Shares are often sold on stock market. Advantages; They generate much more capital Helps the business to expand and to diverse Disadvantages; Can end up having a lot of shareholders Each shareholder has a small say in how the business is run, causes arguments Easy to lose control of the business, as someone can buy enough shares to take majority and take over the company Cancer Research- is a non-profitable organization which is an organization that does not earn profits for its owners, all the money is earned by or donated to an non profitable organization is used in pursuing the organization's aims and objectives. Advantages; Many employees are committed to the organizations cause All the money is going to a good cause Disadvantages; Sometimes
