She elaborates on the issue of spraying chemicals and if it is increasing or decreasing the progress in the world. Carson’s article states that we are hurting ourselves more than we benefit ourselves from the spraying of harmful chemicals, and that we endanger our environment with these chemicals. In order to persuade the progressive intellectuals of this argument, Carson provides data to show the actual harm the pollution from the chemicals is causing, and provokes fear in her audience. In order to make her argument appear reasonable, Rachel Carson uses scientific observation to demonstrate how chemicals are the cause of killing pests. Carson provides rational examples to show the harm that pollution is causing to the earth and pests.
He was not much given to thinking...” (611). This quote shows how the man does not thoroughly contemplate the situation and acknowledge the dog’s unusual behavior to be an important clue that he should stop traveling. The man’s ignorance becomes his ultimate downfall, while the dog’s instincts allow it to survive the trip. A final instance where the dog’s actions show its judgment to be better than that of the man’s is when it says, “This man did not know cold. Possibly all the generations of his ancestry had been ignorant of cold, of real cold, of cold one hundred and seven degrees below freezing point.
The Impacts of Hydraulic Fracturing On the Environment Amber (Dawn) Phillips University Of Pheonix Abstract Hydraulic Fracturing or Fracking offers a means to reduce foreign oil dependence for America. While this may be a solution for one problem, the process itself can and will cause problems on a much greater scale. Fracking methods are posing great dangers of damage to our already polluted environment. If the process as it stands at this point continues, the harm will be irreversible and dire. The Impacts of Hydraulic Fracturing On the Environment Dependence on foreign oil has long been a concern of Americans.
Nuclear waste is harmful to the environment and its inhabitants. Even though the nuclear power industry might oppose nuclear waste signage due to negative public opinion regarding management of nuclear waste, the parameters for storing nuclear waste are crucial for future generations. First, the parameters for storing nuclear waste are crucial for future generations because it is imperative to educate people on the importance of nuclear waste signage. The question is what type of signs would say, “stay away” to humans living 10,000 years from now? Exposure to high levels of radioactive waste can cause birth defects, cancer, and death.
Maria Ruiz English 101 Prof. Courtney Stanton Oct. 8, 2014 Sustainability and our Environment Our natural world is losing its essence of ‘natural’ to become a polluted and corrupted place. In Curtis White’s work, “A Good Without Light” and Jim Tarter’s work, “Some Live More Downstream than Others”; Tarter doesn’t mention a solution to our environmental crisis, but he presents his idea that science can be of great use to find the factors that create pollution, cancer and so on. White’s solution to this barbaric heart is that we have the power to stop it, but instead we are making the choice to hurt others. Overall these works show us the effects of how we suffer the consequences when the Barbaric Heart is violating our environment. White’s view on the barbaric heart promotes our own self-benefit, which links to Tarter’s view of living downstream.
This statement frightens me personally because we are actively passing this mentality of selfishness to our future generations. We will, ultimately, destroy ourselves and the environment around us with this vicious cycle. An example of this cycle applied to our own well-being is obesity. We have the means to be healthy but continue the cycle of possession, greed, and inability to be content and destroy our body from the inside out. If we can end this cycle with small things -- such as meaningless possessions, we should be able to apply them to the things that will make the biggest impact on our future -- like Global warming.
Alternative Energy Paper Tracey O’Baker SCI/362 November 3, 2014 Howard Schmidt Alternative Energy Paper Since energy prices are on the rise, the United States is constantly competing in the global market to find other energy resources. This has been a big challenge for the United States government today in finding and using alternative energy sources. Alternative energies is defined as energy sources that are renewable and free. Three Viewpoints The viewpoints on climate change vary from person to person in today’s society, but if we look back into the past, one would find some pretty important people who were pioneers of their time on this particular subject. George Perkins Marsh wrote on global environmental changes and humans as the agents of global change.
The globe’s traditional oil production has already peaked and total oil production will maximum rise within a decade from evidence suggestion (Campbell & Laherrere, 1998; Deffeyes, 2001; Hall et al., 2003; ASPO, 2008; Meng & Bentley, 2008). Using too many traditional fossil fuels is a cause of the depletion of non-renewable resources and also pollution, global warming and climate change from emission of carbon dioxide. Next, modern lifestyle always destroy ecosystem
Throughout its 4.6 billion years of existence, the Earth has cycled through many natural changes of warming and cooling. Yet, today’s increasing temperature is widely accepted by the fact that humans might be the main cause, instead of the natural temperature changes the Earth cycles every once in awhile. Consequently, the life sustaining environment has been forced to transform more rapidly as temperature changes, and one of the most deleterious results is drought. Drought has caused major problems globally, especially in the waterless West America. In the past, California mainly focused on delivering enough water across the state to meet its people’s usage.
In this essay it would be compared and contrasted the viewpoints on global warming, and discuss about the different issues that people say cause the global warming as well as the defensive points of those supposed causes that affect the environment and cause this effect. It is true that throughout the years the global warming has increased a lot, and everyone can be a witness of that by watching how the weather has changed through the years and it is clear that it’s not the same weather as years ago. It’s clear that humans have caused this during the past century as we create new things and pollute more each time the environment, but also due to those technological advances we have a lot of new things and due to those advances we have made conscience of this, in the past years it is said that the ozone layer has started to regenerate which is a start. Most people blame the global warming on scientists and industries, but it’s not just them who affect it’s everyone and everything causes global warming, today people can’t go a day without causing global warming. This is a very important issue that has been more noticed everyday, people are trying to change their daily routines to help but it is still of great concern that we should start doing something extreme to help with this issue.
