Radio Conflict Being mentally challenged has internal and external conflicts. Although you may think it is just a random disorder, it can be very stressful to those who may have it. Society is not always treating those who do with the appropriate respect. Michael Tollin helps the world open their eyes and realize the struggles and heartache this is that goes along with being mentally challenged. In the movie, “Radio” by Michael Tollin, internal and external conflicts are revealed. First of all, a big conflict in Radio’s life is the fact that he is mentally disabled. It causes many problems in his life and he can’t do a thing about it. This is probably the main reason that he is bullied. In the beginning of the film, Radio comes across a football practice and when the ball goes near him he keeps the ball, because of this the next day the football team ties him up. This resulted in leaving him in fear of trusting people. This problem continued throughout the story many times. Several of the football players continued to frame Radio because he does not know any better. One example is when they told him to go into the girls’ locker room to deliver him something, and they told him no girls were in there. A big conflict involving Coach Jones is deciding what to do with Radio. Many people apart of the school including teachers, students, etc., wanted Radio to be banned from the school. They thought he caused a bigger problem than was worth it. Another conflict with Coach Jones is him not being able to spend enough time with his daughter because of Radio. He blew off his daughter throughout the movie several times because he was doing something with Radio. Another problem faced in this story was when Radio’s mother passed away. His mother was the only thing he had, besides Coach Jones. It had a huge impact on his
