Cory’s whole life revolves around football and his belief that if he continues to play, he will be able to connect with his father. This becomes clear when Rose explains to Troy, “He is just trying to be like you with the sports” (435). Cory’s belief that his father doesn’t like him fuels a lot of the conflict between Cory and Troy. Since Cory believes the only connection he can make with Troy is through sports, he plays football against his father’s wishes. This in turn causes more friction between the two instead of creating the connection that Cory hopes for.

She’s afraid that he is too unstable, and that they do not know enough about him.
It was a volatile situation at first, with constant tension and frequent verbal and physical fights. The coaches (one black and one white) insisted that the team would fail unless they became unified. Similarly, the book discussed the way that businesses will fail unless those from different backgrounds learn to embrace their diversity and participate effectively with one another. To breed unity, the coaches made the players sit on the bus with and room with a member of the opposite race. They also threatened four practices a day unless each teammate learned a significant amount about their roommate’s family, background, etc.

It came time for football camp. Coach Boone was tired of the disrespect by all the players; he made each player room with a player of another race. At first it was a disaster, the Captain, Gerry Bertier, was roomed with Julius Campbell.
It is then that the writer begins to notice the lack of communication in the marriage. Details such as employment hardships, deaths in the family, and monetary issues are the cherry on top of their “football problem” (532). She begins “listening to Rich…about football, because it was a lifeline between who he had become and who he used to be” (533). Rogers also realizes that “football was more than just a bunch of jocks bashing into each other…” (533) and dives into the “comfort and common ground” (533) of the fandom. The next few paragraphs are dotted with humor to exaggerate how little she knows about the sport, and magnify her endeavor to learn.
He has been listening to his wife’s screaming for two days. When the doctor says “……her screams are not important……” , the husband rolled over against the wall, which might be indicating he is annoyed and feeling helpless that he could not get away. He is also physically and mentally suffering which he could not withstand it and lead to his suicide. I think that the act of committing suicide is foolish because he did not think far enough. He did not think that once the baby is burned, his wife would stop
