In Confessions of an Economic Hit Man, John Perkins talks about his life experiences with secretive government sectors and how they affect the world. Perkins work with the firm MAIN gave him the job title of an Economic Hit Man. In this writing John discusses his perspectives of the activities he was involved in from a liberal and professional view. We will first discuss the professional prospective, which in this case would be how Perkins’ actions in his job affect business or in this case MAIN International and the World Bank. This first comes into play when Perkins gets his first big job in Indonesia; Perkins has to assess a proposed electrification plan. Perkins quickly realizes that there is a hidden job in the electrification plan, which is to keep Communism out of Indonesia. Perkins job was to make predictions that produced favorable stats for the loan of the World Bank, which that the countries wouldn’t be able to pay back. Perkins writes from a professional perspective where he basis his decision to act for the business’s sake instead of the good other country. This helped him secure, MAIN and the World Bank business, bud was not good for society as a whole. A professional perspective also is reviled in Perkins personal experience when Perkins gets involved with General Omar Torrijos. Perkins writes articles in the Boston Globe that gave praise to Panama so that Torrijos, would continue to give large contracts with MAIN. This shows Perkins working from experience and in the best interest of his company, but this isn’t the most ethical way of him doing business. If Perkins did what was correct for society his he would have been acting from a point of view which would have been better for society not for the business and his personal self.
