However, humans are sexual beings. Like all sexual creatures we have an instinctive sexual desire (Taflinger, 1996). Because of the nature of human beings, it is reasonable that students receive comprehensive sexual education combined with abstinence education, so youth can make informed reproductive choices, understand the risks of sex (and know how to protect themselves from those risks), and be active in promoting their own sexual well-being. Abstinence-only programs can be dangerous because students do not receive the information regarding safe sex and contraception. Studies have shown students who participated in comprehensive sexual education were no more likely to engage in sexual activity than a student who participated in abstinence-only programs.
Firstly, exposing children to guns and gun education will take away from the curiosity they might have later in life that would have led to an issue or incident. Sex education has shown that this method is effective because when a child is educated they will have a greater understanding about the dangers and other aspects of guns they wouldn’t have known about beforehand. Just like Jamie O’Meara (2000) was saying “that sex education is taught so that kids will have a better understanding of how their bodies work, why they feel sexual desires, and how to act (or not) on those desires”. Children will gain the confidence to make responsible choices when it comes to gun use and resulting in making better decisions. The media puts this image in children’s heads that there is something fun about having a gun and also that it gives you power and you can control people with it.
Giving advice and education on sex and relationships , keeping it impartial and coconfidential. If a child reports some kind of abuse you must stay calm and reassure the child. The Keepsafe code produced by Kidscape is a good method of relating to children regarding personal safety. These may include; Sex education Misuse of the body I.e smoking , alcohol, drugs and self harm. Sexually transmitted diddiseases.
With the birth control pill the prevention level is high and this would be the most important factor in Linda’s situation. Although it is to prevent pregnancy, the birth control pill will not prevent Linda from contracting any sexually transmitted diseases so it would not hurt Linda to also have any and all of her sexual partners to use a condom. Along with using the birth control pill, Linda could use the combination of the condom and the spermicide to prevent both pregnancy and STDs. By combining these two methods, she would give herself a much higher level of prevention rate that the birth control pill does not
For drinking under the age alternative programs suchs as AA meetings or therapy would be more beneficial than going to jail. By going to jail they could get affiliated with gangs. Some researchers say that therapy is one of the best approaches, “ therapy is often a much more productive approach in dealing with youthful behavioral problems such as drinking” (jerry). Studies show that this is a great way to change the minds of alcoholic children. Another reason they say this could be more beneficial is that the therapist can bring out other problems the kids could be hiding.
Upon reading chapter twelve concerning contraception and abortion, my opinion in the matters has been altered for the more positive approach. After gaining more knowledge on ways to have safe sex as well as alternative ways of becoming sterilized, I feel that it is not a bad topic to discuss with our younger generation. When I was a teen, taking a daily pill was something I could never do. I wish I had the options that are available today. These options include and Intrauterine device (IUD) “small objects of various shapes that are inserted into the uterus” (Rathus, et al., 2011, p.367) and injectable contraceptives such as “Lunelle and Depo-Provera” (Rathus, et al., 2011, p.367).
These children are more likely to be runaways and fall into becoming victims of sex trafficking. We can prevent these children from running away in the first place if we can stop child violence, such as child abuse from adults or even other children or siblings. An example of micro factor would be active recruitments into prostitution from peers or pimps. Victims may be talked into these acts, believing that this is the best way to make money. We, as social workers, should inform these teens with workshops and
If you decide to have sex during this time, it is really important that a condom is used or it is likely the medicine won’t have worked. How do you prevent Chlamydia? The only 100% effective method in preventing STDs is abstinence, but if you’re sexually active, the best way to avoid the disease is to be mutually monogamous with someone who has tested negative for Chlamydia. Condoms also give good protection against the disease. What’s the worst that could happen?
To be able to work on understanding his sexual inappropriateness, Bradley will first need to recognize how it affects others and be able to view his behaviors from the victim’s point of view. It may be helpful to create role plays with Bradley to be able to fully show him the impact of his actions. Also, it would be beneficial to provide Bradley with healthy sexuality and sex education classes. This is due to helping Bradley create positive cognitive processes about sexual
If your child wants to protect themselves whether it’s from getting pregnant or whatever it may be, why stop them. They are being responsible for their own actions and body. In conclusion, if a teen feels mature enough about making the decision to have sex they should be mature enough to be safe and responsible about it. Teens don’t feel comfortable asking their parents for these types of things so I think it’s good for birth control to be accessed without parent consent. It won’t only help to protect the teens, but it will help other heath issues to.
